work 9 hour days, 5 days a week,
or
10 hour day with a 1 day off every 2 weeks?
Why?
* I have this choice at work and am really surprised by everyones responses!
i'd go with 90 hours every two weeks instead of 130 hours evert two weeks....
why the hell would you choose to work longer days and virtually no weekends off?

Having once worked 12 hours a day, 7 days a week, I'd say do whatever pays the most if the schedule fits your lifestyle.
I assume you mean 10 days every two weeks, 9 hours/day or 9 days every two weeks, 10 hours/day.
In my opinion, it's a pretty easy decision. I'd take the 9 days every two weeks. Neither 9 nor 10 hours is unbearably long, and long weekends are really nice to have.

I assume you mean 10 days every two weeks, 9 hours/day or 9 days every two weeks, 10 hours/day.
Yes that is correct, aplogies for the confusion!
My favorite is 3 12 hour days and four days off.
Actually, 8 tens in a row, then 6 days off was pretty nice, too, but I usually forgot how to do my job by the time I got back to work.
I'd go with the 10 hour days.

Maybe I am missing something but both kind of suck. One (option one) is standard 9-5 with OT. Option 2 gives you nothing at all except more money. Now if, every 3 weeks you recovered that time by getting 4 days off...hmm that might be tempting. But if it is only for money...not a chance in hell. I left Ontario to escape crap like that.
Ideally, in a perfect world I would want 4x10s with 3 days off.

It is funny as most persons I have spoken to have said a 5 and 4 day work week cycle at 10 hr per day as opposed to a 5 day, 5 day work week cycle at 9 hours.
I am actually leaning towards 9 hours simply because I think 10 is excessive. I struggle making time to enjoy myself and cook good food during weeknights as it is!
keep replying though but explain WHY!

Do you get a choice?
I assume most of your colleagues (2 of them are my ex-colleagues at least) go for the 9-day fortnight?

I believe what he meant on option #2 is
you work 10 hours a week 5 days a week one week and then work 10 hours 4 days a week the next week. I forget the terminology for working that type of shift. At my old job I used to work 9+ hours a week 4 days a week. I liked that schedule.

results in:
85% said 9 day fortnight
10% indifferent
5% said stay 10 day cycle
* guess I have to get used to getting up even earlier and going to bed even earlier to sustain my lifestyle :)

Do you have any idea how much overtime you'd get working 60 hours a week
