Mountain Biking - to get an FSR or not to get an FSR?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

i currently ride a Hardrock sport disc... its pretty good handles the 4-5ft drops pretty well.. but i want to go bigger than that... i was thinking that i could get an FSr frame used off ebay or sumpin and mate my parts to it... first of all.. would this be a good idea? second of all would it work? and 3rd of all.... are there any other relatively cheap FS frames that i can mate my specialized parts to?

What kind of riding will you be doing? Do yopu ride trails or just look for drops and jumps.

Your parts will work on most frames out there, most things are standard. You may have to replace your derailleur and seatpost, the rest of the components should work. If you plan on using the same fork then make sure that the headtube on the new frame isn't longer than your current headtube.
If you're looking for an FSR specifically and used, look at earlier '00 models (Enduro or BigHit) that someone has modified with a BETD or MRP linkage kit. You'll have in the range of 5-6" of travel that still pedals well. Bonus if it comes with the disc conversion "sharkfin" adapter. The only thing you'll need is a new seatpost, because most of those FSR took that gawdawful oddball 30.9 post.

Do not use aolese to shorten words especially when your shortening is only one letter. It makes posts difficult and annoying to read
