I'm trying to install an RPM/Nashber ISIS bottom bracket, but this ring on the spindle won't let the Park BBT-2 tool get inside the cups. It turns the non drive cup just fine but only if the bottom bracket isn't there. Am I doing something wrong? Did Park make different versions of the BBT-2? What am I doing wrong?

You need an installer made for ISIS. They cost a little under $15.

Yes, there are two different tools called the BBT-2. The old one fits octalink cups, the new one fits octalink and ISIS cups. Why Park didn't change the part number is beyond me; both tools look absolutely identical on the outside.

If there's only two, I have them both! I bought the newer one to install a Shimano ISIS BB a few years ago. It looks like the one on the Park website, which states it will fit ISIS with oversized spindles. I'll check up on that adaptor mentioned above, but I'm pretty pissed that Nashbar says it only needs the BBT-2, and Park says it will work. But I agree on that part number thing. If you change any useable specification on an item, you need to give it a different part number.

Park's original version of the BBT-2 fit only square taper bottom brackets. When Octalink came out they issued a revised tool with exactly the same part number (Why? Dunno.) but the packaging had a yellow sticker saying "Fits hollow axle bottom brackets". I don't think there was another revision after that.

shimano doesnt make ISIS.

Maybe spline drive is different than ISIS? Anyway, I got a tool that worked. Park says that they had a revision 2 years ago, which would mean at least a 3rd revision, because I have 2 different BBT-2s from 3 and 10 years ago. Anyway, I got it installed and will ride tomorrow. And now I've got enough tools to start a small shop :D

My BB-2, which works with Octalink bb's ,was purchased well before two years ago so I guess there is a 3rd version. Why Park doesn't either change the model number or indicate a revision number is beyond me.

They did change the model designation when they went from an Al body (CT-2) to a cast steel body (CT-3) on their otherwise identical shop-quality chain tool.
