I just bought a Giant OCS3, and the chain rubs against the inside of the middle front sprocket when it is on the lowest rear sprocket and lowest front sprocket. Is this normal????? It is definitely not rubbing on the derailleur. I can see it plainly catching on the rivets that hold the sprocket.

Riding cross-chained is not a good idea. Avoid using small-small and large-large combinations. Try to keep a straight chain-line. That rubbing is just about unavoidable with what you're doing.

Instead of low/low, go middle and middle or middle and high. The chain has to transition far too much laterally with low/low, as well as high/high. You're losing efficiency running that way as well.

Okay, so it's normal given the lateral degree of change between gears. I wasn't trying to ride like that, just adjusting the derailleur on a stand and noticed the drag as I shifted through the gears. Thanks for the lesson! Can't wait to get up tomorrow and take her on her first real ride!
