My Phone is broke, and I need a new one. It is a Samsung sch a310. Very old-school, simple, and it has lasted me 2.5 years.
It seems that all new phones have cameras and crap and they break after 6 months. I don't need this. Anybody know where I can get a (verizon) flip phone with minimal features that will last a long time?

Phonescoop.com sorted for Verizon (http://www.phonescoop.com/carriers/carrier.php?c=2). That should be most of the phones available. You'll have to figure out where to buy one yourself. For an easier to browse list (ie, shows basic features in the list), go to wirefly.com.
Flip phones do add an extra hinge to break. There's some pretty darn small candy bar phones available.

Nokia "brick" phones are super durable.
That siad, so far I am very happy with my Razr. It's not something you can physically abuse, but it takes being in my sweaty pant poscket day after day very well.
I've had a Samsung 310....it died on me in 9 mos :(

Ugh, I don't like the wireless industry. Thanks for the links iamlucky13, but all those sites are really difficult for a person like me to look at. I suppose that it is a tall order to ask for the sheldonbrown.com of the cell phone world? I really want a phone with a black and white screen and no camera.

Nokia has those. The guys who work in the military fab portion of my workplace have to have phones with no cameras, and they are Nokias.
Color screen, but the Nokia 2128i looks pretty nice....has a built in flashlight too :p

I might have the oldest working cell phone in the world. It's the size of a shoe. But I'm sticking with it til it dies. Which might be tomorrow.

if it has to be flip, your choices are limited. If you want something reliable, go for the LG 3300. I've sold a lot of those, and the customers are always happy.

Looks exactly like my old one, except it has color. I want one in black and white!
How long do you think it'll last? If it was a bike, what would it be? A huffy? Probably not a colnago... I'm looking for the cell phone equivalent of a good english 3-speed.

Like a good English three speed they getting harder and harder to find. I have a Nokia with a camera and color screen. I bought it because my old phone died and this was the cheapest one available. The color doesn't bother me at all (I have it background set to a grey tone wallpaper), and the camera actually came in handy the other day to snap a photo of the license plate and phone number off the back of a truck that tried to run me off the road. (I caught up with the truck at a stop light.)
All in all I find that I'm able to call and send SMS with no problems. I just ignore all the bells and whistles.

Color screen is not too bad, but they do drink up batteries like mad.
Thing is, these companies have phones like you want...but they don't sell them stateside, due to "there not being a market here"....I call bullstink, there IS a market for them here....they just found it's better business to sell thousands of phones here than sell the ones that will last us.

There actually is some functional benefit and really no cost to having a color screen. Colors can help seperate portions of the screen and ease navigation. There's probably less than a dozen non-color phones available in the US anymore, mostly from either prepaid services or Motorola's mil-spec rated push-to-talk phones.
Samsung A630 also looks like it would work well for you. The Nokia 2128 is smaller than it looks (I have a Nokia 6010, which has basically the same features but a larger body...I like it). The one thing I don't like about Nokia is they don't put any quite ordinary rings on the phone. There were probably 3 that I could even stand to listen to the first time, although 2 of those were actually non-cheesy enough I decided they'd work. Fortunately, I don't get calls very often, and everybody else uses the dumber sounds, so I know when it's my phone making noise.
I don't know for sure where you can buy these phones. I guess the dealers in the malls would have them, but probably not at the best price. If you're adament about it, you should be able to get them to show you what basic models they have available, but they're still going to try to upsell you, because they make a bigger commission on the higher models.
I have an LG VX8100 that I got 'free' at the verizon store. It's a flip phone with a very robust hinge, two color screens, and about week of standby battery life betweeen charges, less of course the more I use it.
It has a camera, I can email photos, web cast or 'V' Cast.. I use neither. The OE ringtones sucked so for $2.99 I downloaded 'Green Onions" by Booker T & the MG's. I haven't found another person yet with that ringtone. It's got a bunch of other features that I don't use.
While I don't use the phone for a hockey puck I think it will last throuout the "New Every Two" cycle.
