View Full Version : DT FS: QR skewer for shock mount bolt?

I searched but could not find if anyone has discovered a QR skewer with which to replace the upper shock mount bolt on the DT FS. This would speed up packing and unpacking the bike considerably (for those who haven't tried it, the swing arm has to be detached at the shock and rotated under the seat tube to pack the DT FS in a suitcase, otherwise the width of the folded bike is too great for a suitcase. the "bottom bracket stand" is not only a stand that keeps the bike upright when simply folded (as opposed to packed), but the asymmetrical leg of the stand prevents the swing arm assembly from over-rotating into the crank when packing the bike).

Perhaps a seat post QR skewer with a sleeve on the skewer would work.

Yan, Is there any risk incurred by bending back the bottom bracket stand back one centimeter so that the derailleur is placed a little farther from the wall of the suitcase?

We would love to see pictures of the packed bike, as well as the process.

OK, pix the next time I do it, unless Yan, wavshrdr, Rafael, or some other "DT FS packer" has pix. Rafael did a thread on packing a standard DT in a Samsonite Spinner suitcase (wav uses a F'lite, which is an inch longer), but as I recall, there weren't any "step by step" pix.

Is there any reason not to take the bottom piece off completely? I don't think aluminum bends
like steel.

If by "bottom piece" you mean the stand welded to the bottom bracket, sure, you could cut it off, but personally I like to use the standwhen I'm locking the bike on the street. Alu does bend when heated. I wouldn't care about the impact on the paint. The interisland airlines here have done a great job of giving my FS the "hit by buckshot" look.

Sorry for not responding sooner I was away for the weekend.

I assume you are referring to the frame protector. There is no risk to the bike in bending it, however it may break. I've seen one badly bent....crazy story. A Coker College student got hit on his DT FS by a monster SUV while biking at a solid rate of speed. The SUV went on to run over the bike. Thankfully he was fine. The damage assessment was shocking. The FS had a bent (not broken) frame protector, and the SUV has a broken headlight and messed up grill. The FS did more damage to the SUV!

Thanks,
Yan
