Both Shimano and Campy make cable guides that direct the cable under the BB. The Shimano one I have is plastic while the Campy one is metal. Does any one know if one is better than the other, maybe there is less friction with one?

I'm sure it makes absolutely no difference. If I had to choose, I'd say the plastic one is easier on the cables.

The Shimano plastic guide is super durable. I had one on a bike for 58,000 miles and changed it only because I got a new one with my upgrade kit. The old one was still fine.
