Note to self: Next year, don't cycle through Balboa Park on Earth Day weekend. Aside from dodging hundreds, if not thousands of pedestrians, it's too depressing to see people driving their cars 'round and 'round trying to find a parking place as close as possible to avoid having to do much walking, and it's REALLY depressing to see people milling about the festivities, smoking (this is EARTH DAY afterall), and putting their butts out with their shoes and leaving them as litter on the EARTH below their feet.

I ride the trails round where I live- and I dread going near the carparks that are on the trails. I can understand people using a car to get on top of the hills. (Not all are lucky to be within cycling distance or if I am pushed walking distance). First of all the area around the car parks is covered in Dog Mess, Then there are the areas around the carparks that are littered with rubbish.
Most of them just seem to open the door of the car to let the dog have a run, and if they do venture out of the car themselves, it is only to walk over to the nearest bush to take a call of nature. They seem to do it with a Big Mac or KFC in their hands and just throw the wrappers instead of the handy bins that are placed there for their convenience.

Earth Day here is all about "educating" the young (and gullible) on how awful the chemical manufacturers are. I actually had one moron knock on my door asking if I'd like to sign a petition against the "death-dealing chemical companies." When I pointed out to the youngster that he was wearing synthetic clothing, synthetic rubber shoes, and drove to my house in a car that was made of (and ran on) chemicals, it just bounced off ("don't confuse me with facts, my mind's made up!").

I marvel at the silly dogma being passed off as "education" these days. (sigh)
