ok in my pursuit of upgrading the bike something on the top of my list is new rims. im liking the sun rhynolite xc's...the price is good and they have pretty good reviews everywhere...im lookin for a rim thats mainly a XC rim but is strong, maybe even an all-purpose rim. idk if im making any sense here...anyone?

There is really not a good reason to do that. The whole point of getting a better wheelset is to getting stronger/lighter hubs as well as rims. I would build up a DT Swiss or King hubset with DT 2.0/1.8 butted spokes and Mavic 717's or 819's(tubeless). Also a new rim mayrequire different lenght spokes.

They are GREAT rims, I've had them for a bit now and have put them through their paces. Bad drops, screwed up X-up manuals, landing nose first on drops, landing hard. They are still in true! Tough rims, and quite light!

Lighter than the rhynolites too i believe.

I bought the rhynolites a year or so back. I bought them because they are so well reviewed. I've liked the wheelset well enough but I think they are a little heavy for me. I'm only 150 lbs and i think i could have found a lighter rim.

Many of the reviews are from heavier riders who finally found a strong rim. They are strong, i'll give them that.
