Has anyone assembled a Sturmey Archer S5 or FW without the keyed lockwasher under the nut that secures the dog gear to the axle?
Item #33 in http://www.hadland.me.uk/s5.pdf Part # HMW149

It seems they may be unnecessary. Can someone suggest a grade of Locktite that would be suitable?

A friend has offered to swap 3 NOS S5 axle assemblies for the axle assemblies out of my 3 NOS S5/2s. However his have been put together from separate parts and are lacking the washer. I prefer the efficiency of the S5. He prefers the foolproof shifting of the S5/2.

OTOH If anyone has 3 HMW149s to spare, I’d trade even up for my 1st born male child.
