Symmetry, a universal phenomenon, seems to play an all important role in life. It is integrally related to balance, it forms our perception of the world and guides our very actions. I have learned the importance of balance over the years – physical vs mental, secular vs spiritual, logic vs emotion, stress vs relaxation, joy vs sorrow, etc, etc. Cycling plays an important part in my world of balance and when it becomes too dominant it in itself is ill affected.

just thought to use this forum as a bouncing board for some reflections.

thanks and best wishes to all for great riding this season

Some call this "burn out."

Perhaps your destiny is to bring balance to The Force.

I think the lack of balance when cycling is far more dangerous.

"Moderation in most things." ("Moderation in ALL things" would be immoderate. :) )

A Good balance is required in all aspects of life. When It comes to cycling though- I have periods of the year where it becomes all important. It does become the predominant part of my life. The current period is full of cycling and training and eating correctly and keeping focused. Give it another month though, and cycling will drop off to become the minority of my focus. In fact for about 2 weeks- If I do not sit on a bike- then I will be happy. Then I will realise that something is missing again and the allure of those hills will be back, and so will the Sunday breakfast at the cafe or the Cakes and buns at Fuscardi's. Then the diet imbalance will start to show itself and to enable me to eat all those wrong foods- I will have to cycle more to get that diet and weight gain back into balance.

Most profound.
