I was just curious what you consider to be a long ride?

during the week i can fit in 1.5 hour rides. on the weekend i usually do at least a 2 hour ride and a 3 hour ride. if i have a race i omit the 3 hour ride.

I do 10-20 in about 1-1.5 hrs. I consider anything longer than 30 a LONG ride.

My rule of thumb is that if I have to bring food I consider it to be a long ride (longer than 2 hours).

Becuase of time contraints I usually only get in one longer (3-5 hr) ride per week.

The length of my training rides depend on what sort of training I'm focusing on and how much time I have.

During the past couple months, the weather has been pretty bad, and I have not had much time to train, so my training rides have been about an hour on the trainer doing intervals.

I will keep doing those short training rides, but now I will start regularly (instead of just once a month) incorporating longer rides into my schedule. A LSD (Long Steady Distance) training ride for me is usually somewhere between a metric century (100 kms/62 miles) and an imperial century (162 kms/100 miles).

As for what I consider to be a long ride .... rides start to get long when they approach the 24 hour mark, such as 400K brevets, 24-hour TTs, etc.

What ever fits the need for the period. I'm in a building period and just started doing 'c' prioity races. So im doing 4-6 hrs a week of endurance and about 3-5 hrs of high intensity efforts. Once i get to the race period, i'll knock down the endurance to about 3 hrs a week

A distance of greater than 30 miles. Normally I try to ride 1.5 - 2 hours per day with longer rides on the weekends.

For me anything over 3 hours and requires real refueling is a long ride. This past Saturday rode 77 miles and made two refueling/hydration stops. I'm one of those folks who will get "wobbly" if on the bike for more than 3 hours and haven't put some calories (more than just a sports drink) into the system. I can go 3 hours easy in the spring with just a couple of water bottles loaded with half sports drink half water(dependent on heat index), once I get beyond 3 hours I need to have started in hour one with a higher caloric intake. Between the sports drink and the energy bars/food need to plan on an intake of about 300-400 calories an hour, once over 4 hours will need a lunch stop.

Average training ride on the weekend is 4 hours, but I'll get inspired sometimes and go for 6. But, I'm training more for endurance than speed.

It's "long" if it's 100 or more...
