taking your advice, i got the schwinn moab1 frameset. it's light! built it up today(not complete though) with the parts i had left over, and it makes a nice, light hardtail. i'm not used to riding such a long-travel fork though (manitou xvert air) especially on a larger frame (used to ride 18" center-center, the moab is 21" center to top). still can't wait to take it out though as soon as weather permits! color scheme is black with red accents, and coincidentally the fork i picked up was black with red accents... turns out my saddle (bonty selle san marco) was also black with red... and the SRAM 9.0sl rear der. was black composite with red lettering... hmmm by chance everything i managed to put together turned out to match colors (not that you care)!
only problem is i do not know whether or not i had installed the icbm headset correctly? the tophat does not cover over the headtube and so it will rotate when i steer (is this normal? i have never worked with threadless headsets before). The thing is that when it rotates, it's grinding against the top of the headtube.
also the bottom bearing i pressed into the headtube by hand, but the top bearing does not press in by hand, but just kind of sets there. somehow i feel like it should be pressed into the headtube like the bottom one...
anyone with experience on icbm headsets can help me out a little?
