What do you use to to get your Ourys or Champs to slip on and then stick. Soap and water? Hairspray? <Insert other slimy yet sticky substance>

vodka, no joke. any liquid will do, because when it's wet it's slippery, when it dries the grips will stick. alcohol evaporates quicker than water. i would've used rubbing alcohol if i had any but i didn't. i had vodka though

at least you are using it for something!

windex works well for seating grips too.

with oury grips -- or any other grips that have closed ends, you have to be very sparing with whatever you use (with the exceptions of air and brute force) because it simply will not dry out toward the ends.

are champ grips considered open ended? or does the little hole count

rubber cement works great! I use this kind:

I've put it on and rode like ten minutes later and the grips were on solid

only put grips on once, and they weren't ourys or champs...but the short answer is: brute force. "if brute force isn't working, you're not using enough".

uuuugh i want my new freaking stem so i can stop riding bare (ie sexy) bars

bare bars are hot looking, with the right bars, but...the only day i rode with bare track drops, my hands were slipping all over and it sucked.

of course, i got new gloves since then...i just don't feel like buying more bar tape to redo the bars if i figure i don't like the bare bars.

Some handsoap worked well - the foamy kind. Slathered it inside the grip and twisted it on, no prob

i found rubbing alcohol to be far superior to windex and soap.

i also found poking a hole or two, which come out to be pretty invisible, in the closed end of ourys, help the innards dry out.

also, don't use em for a few days. make sure they're not gonna slide around when you're grippin em.

wd40 will eat away at the rubber.

how do you use an air compressor to get them on? i understand how this would get them off, but is on just the same only in reverse? seems like the cleanest way to go about it but i'm not sure i grok it.

Indeed, bare bars are hot, but if you're out on the bike for more than an hour or so, the need for a bit of padding is completely necessary. But a good pair of gel or anatomic gloves are usually all that's needed.

windex. compressed air will speed up the drying process

So those of you who use rubber cement or some such - how then do you remove the grips when you want to change bars or whatever? Do you have to cut them off? I got caught in the rain today and found out that a little water loosens them up... not so cool when you're counting on them to stay put when attempting to slow down on a wet hill. But I'd rather not have to get another set if I decide to tweak my brake configuration or something in the future.

heat them ****ers up before applying lube...it helps the rubber become more elastic.
if you wind up using too much lube, then zip tie for a few days until they dry.
saves you from reapplying grips as well as a fun skid stop grip slip trick.

I've used rubbing alcohol to take them off when they've been rubber cemented on.

poke a hole in the end of the grip with a saftey pin so it doesn't make a vacuum and leave air in there to let it slip

yeah take it off, clean that **** out, and put it back on with something that's not a penetrating lubricant.

if that can loosen rusty bolts how the hell do you think it's gonna fix something solidly in place?

well i mean...i was hoping it would dry

any idea how to get the suckers off? besides compressed air

eddiebrannan

yeah they come off fairly easily. you roll em down like putting a condom on in reverse. they can be a bit of a pain to get unrolled again, but i've done it. you may find they're slippery enough with the wd40 to just pull off though. or stick some more in, since that's what it's for
