Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - Spiffy chainrings

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Hello all!
I'm about to aquire a replacement Surly Steamroller frame. I will be forced to get a new crankset when I move the parts over from the old frame. I would love to have the chainring be the one 'spiffy' looking thing on it. (it's all pretty stealthy besides.)
So I ask the forum:
I like the chainring styles of BMX bikes, can a BMX crankset be used in a standard english BB, like the S.Steamroller?
Or: Where can I find spiffy-looking singlespeed cranksets?
Thanks!

110 bcd, i think...you can put bmx cranks on a fix with the right BB spindle length (for straight chainline). people have done it, and i've never heard stories of drivetrains melting in anguish.

on the bike I'm currently building, I have a set of answer alumilites with a 113 x 78 bb... looks pretty "spiffy".

Thanks for the input guys, I really do appreciate it. Looks like I'll just have to do some fiddling with the chainline, if any. We'll see how this experiment turns out.
Thanks again!

Woah I used to have an answer alumilite fork on my bmx bike... they didn't have the cranks back then though... I was going to put a pair of primo aluminum cranks on my first fixed gear, from my bmx bike but they were 175's so I had to look elsewhere. I can't find a picture of them... guess they're too old but they would have looked awesome.

Also, the White Industries SS crank is cool (and easier to get your hands on):
