Ok, so I just finished painting my Miyata 710 80's conversion this weekend and I'm trying to get the rest of the parts I need together to finish my project. I'm currently stuck on the headset. I removed all of the races from the fork and frame to paint it, so I'm really starting at square one when it comes to headsets.
I'd like to make it a threadless if at all possible (just more variety) but I'm confused about what I need. If I buy one of those threadless conversion quills, will I still need to buy a threaded headset and then just be able to use threadless stem, etc? Or if I buy a threadless headset can I just attach it and away I go. From my searches it seems like the main problem is that the fork on the Miyata will be too short for threadless. I'm fairly confused at this point.
One last thing - if I just go with the 1" threaded headset and quill stem, can I buy any 1" headset I can find or do I need the special JIS type b/c it's a Miyata?
Thanks for now.
