Hi-
I enjoy biking on and off road, and am considering getting into touring. Before buying a new bike I would like to know of good solutions to the problem of transporting the bike for point-to-point touring.
At present I am considering buying a bike with S&S couplers and a (hard) suitcase. Question: What happens to the case while I am riding? I don't want to carry it! (At least, this does not sound like a reasonable plan.) The only solution I see is to ship it, which somewhat limits my choice of destinations A and B (can't be too remote). Also, if I fly to point A, ship the suitcase to point B, what happens if something goes wrong and I never make it to B?
If I choose instead to ship my bike to point A in bike boxes, I can just discard the boxes at point A. But then it seems that I have to count on easily finding replacement boxes at point B.
I feel that there must be a better solution that I have not thought of. How do others handle this?
