In the near future I was thinking about building a sidecar for a bike (welding involved). Does anyone have any good instructions for one? I have a few ideas but I'd like to see other peoples and get some advice.

Make the sidecar, and then attach it to the bike.
Make sure the back wheels are aligned in three dimensions! Not pigeon-toed or splayed, leaned left or right, or one higher or lower than the other.
If your outrigger wheel is in line with your rear axle, the bike will handle best but tip towards the missing wheel. The further you move it forward, the more stable the bike will be but harder to steer. The ideal solution is to center your sidecar load at the rear axles of the back two wheels.
Attach the sidecar to the bike at least on the chain stay, the seat stay, and up by the head tube. Remember to give yourself room to pedal! Some people trim down the inside pedal so it's skinnier. The thinner the bike overall the better it is in traffic. Hope you have a garage!
