BMX - new guy getting BACK into flatland

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
ok here is a lil history of myself,, i used to ride back in the day when dennis "the real" mccoy was the man.. and eddie fiola and martin apario were the gt team,,, and woody itson and rl osborn were on scene.... i used to own a 1987 gt pro freestyle tour,, chrome,,,, ,,,,,
now that is is 15 years later and im 30 years young,, i have recently purchased a dyno frame and fork set from ebay,,, i plan on putting everything on it,, but i have no idea what to get,, and the least expensive way to get it...
now to me the most important thing was having powerful brakes... what is a great combination of rims and brakes,, i have bolts on forks for u/v brakes and the rear aswell.... and what is the deal with triple and double walled rims...
thanks for your help,, i think i might have foound another home to visit,,, also my favorite trick used to be a fire hydrant to a double decade to a flair,,,, ,, or even the rollade,,
thanks for your help guys/gals
i think your comma key is stuck.
I rode back then and I ride now.
alot has changed.
but alot has stayed the same.
you mentioned not wanting to spend alot of money.
so I can't really recomend much, just get what you can afford.
the brakes to use these days are center pulls. dia-compe makes good ones but there are alot of other companys that make them as well.
is your dyno frame an "old school" one inch head tube or is it an inch and an eight?
dont know what type of frame it is,, or from what decade... but it doesnt have the regular frame.. i think i might have the ebay auction still where it shows he color and type.... if so i will post it... but i can put center pull on the forks.. but i have no idea what type/kind/brand of rims to get... i have been reading about chrome rims and that they have superior stopping power,,, since im old school i just wanted to know if the odyssey gyro was still being made,, or has it changed its name to "ORYG"..
the only problem i am having is deciding on rim and brakes,, just wanted to know the best combonation,,,,, when i say i dont have a large spending limit,, just means i dont want to spend a grand on rims i will be willing to pay up to 200 on complete rims and both brakes..
also what happened to dennis mccoy?????
DMC still rides. i think he rides for mongoose.
as for rims and brakes....
get anything you want.
48 spokes are still in although alot of folks are going w/ 36 because the rims are SO freaking strong these days.
chrome is better for braking.
if your bike has center pull posts, then you get center pulls for brakes. if not your going to be running whatever crappy brakes you ran "back in the day"

www.danscomp.com
buy parts there.....
here it is,, my bike.. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?MfcISAPICommand=ViewItem&item=1855300762
thanks for the link,, i need it to start everything,,,, also is this double wall trile wall anything to worry about,,,
and is dennis "the real" mccoy doing flatland or ramps,, because i havent seen him anywhere,,, is he still "the man"
dmc rides vert and street.
he still rocks for sure but there are a TON of kids coming up that rock also. so you usually see the new guys in mags and on tv.
your bike looks good. you can run front and rear center pulls and it looks like you have a gyro.
(oryg is brian scurra's version made by sst (scurra speed technology) you may remember that brian invented the gyro but the patent is owned by odyesse(sp?)
as for double wall vs. tripple wall.
kids are doing some damm crazy tricks and wheels just won't hold up like they used to. so companys made these super strong wheels.
if your only riding flat you can ride whatever you want. keep in mind the more walls in your rim the heavier it is going to be...
i would just go for some double walled. maybe some hazzard lites would be good.
hope that answers your questions
thanks.....i truly appreciate it..

I'm glad to see there are other old geezers in the sport. I'm about to turn 40, I'm usually the oldest geezer at the park when I go with my kid. The other old geezer parents look at me like I'm nuts. And BTW, the old saying "you're only as old as you feel" canNOT be right. I feel 80. But still act 18 :)

LOL!! 5 year old's, man they are cool aren't they? What's really funny is that I have as big a time at the skatepark as the punk kids do! When we first show up, my son usually splits quick so all the other kids won't know that this tubby old gray haired dude is with him. Then after I get thim all fired up by whooping at them when the get some big air, or when I help one of them up after they crash I end up being buds with them all. I usually get a big cheer section going for me too before the day is over. We always have a good time. That's what it's all about though isn't it, having a good time? I just wish we had all this cool stuff to do when I was a punk kid :)
