shifter help

need some advice.

I upgraded from shimano 8 to 9 on my tri bike. Got new shifters, however I ordered Down tube (instead of bar end for my aero bars) shifters by mistake. I received 10sp dura ace. I was able to put the right shifter into the old bar end post and it works real well (lever is only 1 cm longer than regular bar end shifters). However, the left front der. shifter comes spring loaded and the only way I can mount it leaves enough tension in the shifter that when shifting up to the large chain ring, the tension brings it back to the small.

Is anyone familiar with these shifters? Can I undo the spring loading? Is there a way to mount it to the bar end plug so that this doesn't happen?

Returning them for the proper bar enders is not an option and even though I only paid wholesale, it's still 47 bucks I'd rather not waste.

Additionally, I'm building up a tri bike for a recent retired Olympic bobsledder and would lilke to equip the bike with my old shifting system, so I need to locate 2 more bar end plug/posts.

any ideas?

I dont see how you would put the down tube shifters in.......They would be sideways and all effed up, unless there is another way to mount them that I have missed(never worked on down tube, so take my comments as you want)....Just be a big boy and buy the proper stuff.....

Barcon and DT shifters are almost the same mine were identical with the exception that the barcons came with barend mounting brakets and the DTs came with DT mounting brackets... ok that wasnt clear enough

Barcons and Downtubes both come in two pices (per shifter for a 4 peice total) the part that attaches to the tube or areo bars (the brackett) and the part that attaches to the Brackett.

As for the front springyness its prolly not in the shifter but in the tension of the cable i would suggest that you tighten the shifter (tighten the screw that you use to attach to the bracket down tighter and that should go away)
