OK...we have no idea how we lived without a tandem for the past XXX years of cycling "together"...! All we ride now is our tandem. It's like a disease! I rode one of the singles the other day (have 3 beautiful Italian steelies, as well as a 1969 Schwinn Paramount) and it just wasn't the same anymore.

Count us as one of the positive stories for marriage + tandem. We love spending the extra time together. We love how much weight we've been losing. We love being able to haul our son around in his trailer. We do still hate the uphill riding, but LOVE the downhill/flats riding of a tandem.

We wanted to thank everyone that helped us out with our purchase (I used to be AndyGrow), and has since helped making suggestions (like riding 90-degrees OOP - THE BEST!).

Thanks! Ride on!

We love riding our tandem. A while back we had an out of town ride & couldn't find the clips for our tandem rack. We rode our singles instead. While we still enjoy the singles, we really missed our tandem. We vowed if we ever loose the clips again, we'll find some way to bungie the bike to the rack.

Tandem Edge

We love our tandem! We purchased our first Cannondale tandem about 15 years ago and we were hooked from the first ride. This year, with the last child out of college, we purchased a new Trek 2000 as a present to ourselves. A gift that strengthens our marriage, our minds and our bodies. I still ride a single but perfer the time we share on the tandem.

OOPers and YOOPERS! Sounds like the snow has melted in the Soo area and that rare disease of "tandemitis" has taken hold this spring.
Is tandeming good for a marriage? Been married 51 years and tandeming 31+ years . . .
Pedal on TWOgether!

My wife just sprung a new C'Dale road tandem on us for X mas after much hinting and we are hooked. When you say 90 OOP this means captains right foot parellel to the ground while stokers right foot is perpendicular ?

High Cadence/AndyGrow,

Please do not let you avatar wife lose anymore weight. I enjoy her picture just the way she is, lol.

Currently I spend more time on our tandem with my kids than my wife. My 6 year old gets me up for early morning rides before school. Just this weekend, the five year old wanted to stoke for the first time. That latter tickles me pink because there is no interest to ride the training wheel bike from that one. I had to stop an argument last night about who would stoke and who would go in the trailer for a late afternoon playground ride. My guess is that next year the then 3 year old will be wanting to stoke. We think that one is going to be our troublemaker. After this fourth one comes in November, I really don't know what I am going to do to get them all out. The oldest may have to start riding solo more. Maybe trail-a-bike in between the tandem and trailer. I really need a triplet or a quint.

Redrom

We just got a recumbent tandem trike and went on our first ride and loved it. We're going to outfit it with two child seats (one behind each rider), so it will become our new family vehicle. My parent's think we're crazy for how much it costs; I'm selling the truck to pay for it. Not much to say yet - just high aspirations.

I will also add that this season our tandem has been an excellent source of couples therapy on one occasion. Both of us were stressed out and arguing about stuff that's well beyond the scope of this thread, but we agreed to go for a ride together. 45 sunny miles and a visit to the Chesapeake Bay later, life was good.

There's one for all the folks who say that tandeming is a divisive experience, eh?

Put new chain rings and crossover chain on last week and set up a 1/8 turn OOP. First thing I did when back after that ride was to change back so that both pedals are in phase. That did not feel right- caused problems on starting and when coasting- one of us had awkward stance on the legs.
