I got some Kreitler rollers off of ebay for pretty cheap last month.
After riding on them for awhile, all I can say is Sorry to anyone
that has had to ride behind me in a pace line. What a difference
in both keeping a straight line and also not wasting as much energy
going side to side. Plus, I can ride indoors when all it does is rain
for the past 2 weekends. Don't have rollers? Get some.

They are generally very quiet, as long as you are riding with smooth tires. Otherwise they will hum. And the faster you go, the more whirring your wheels make. Rollers do rock. I was contemplating selling mine several months ago, but then took a ride on them and changed my mind!

you don't ride outside when it rains?!?! i think you're in the wrong forum.
My boss' 25 year old Kreitlers still spin like butter and are QUIET. The only maintenence he's had to do in that span of time was replace the belt (free of charge) once... Kreitler for life.
Could you ride them with someone sleeping in the next room?
I have a set of Krietlers. They are insane. I just got done doing 10 miles with my girlfriend napping on the couch right next to me. It was me getting off them that woke her up. Low humming, that's about it.
