Mountain Biking - Rock Shox Quadra 21R Spring Options?

Hope you can help. The old bike (Rockhopper A1 Comp) has a Rock Shox Quadra 21R fork on it (bike is in super condition - the Girlfriend's ride now). However the elastomer bumpers in the fork are starting to degrade. I always meant to upgrade to spring replacements, but you know how it is. Now that the upgrade needs to be made... I can't find any springs. White Brothers used to make replacements... but don't seem to anymore. Anyone have any suggestions where I can find replacement springs? Or have a pair sitting in a box in your basement? Do you know if there are some Judy model replacement springs that would fit? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I have the same fork on my wife's old mtn bike. This bike has a child seat on the back and we use it to take our 2.5 year old son for rides.

I noticed that the fork was no longer working, I took it apart and found my elastomers were either stiff, or crumbling apart. Also, one of the stanctions is frozen stiff. I've saturated it with penetrating solution, and it's still stuck.

I looked into getting some new internals, but found that I could get a new fork for the cost of just the parts. Luckily, I had someone give me their old fork, it's a Jett Long Travel, but for what we're using it for, it's perfect.

Rock Shox no longer produces parts for forks older than 2000. I can get a hold of Total Air cartridges for that fork, but some mail order companies:( can sell you a fork for less than the cartridges.

No they will not work.

How do the quadra 21r and the judy cartridge differ? The quadra is basically a skewer with the poly bushing donuts on the skewer. Rubber shishkabob (sp?). The replacement springs really just have to be the right length and diameter (barring spring rates, rebound, etc - I would assume those would be covered by the fact they are shock springs). In theory, slide off the poly bushings and slide on the spring. Maybe?

Well the springs the judy series and the Quadra 21R are the same length 7". however the inside diameter of the sliders are different. The Quadra and Indy forks are Mag series with differnt guts. Mountain Speed (speed springs) for Judy forks simply fit on top of the cartridge or cartridges if you run a DH model. For the Indy series or Quadra they replace the guts entirely.

and about half way down they show, Total Air Cartridge kits. If the Quadra is similar to any other model, one of these systems may work. I would call Cambria or a Rock Shox expert and find out.

OK good you got two confirmations on your question then. I would stay away from the Judy TT IMHO.

I have an old Quadra Q21R that I'm seriously considering converting to a lamp. Really.

It was my first suspension fork but I don't even have a sentimental attachment to it. The elastomer springs were OK, though they quit functioning in cold weather. The big problem with the fork was a lack of rebound damping. On a big hit the darn thing would just about launch you like a catapult

I don't know if replacement springs are available for the Quadra. Even if they are, you might consider buying a new fork instead. Unless the new spring kit includes some kind of rebound damping, the money might better be spent on a close-out of a more modern fork.

Any thoughts on an inexpensive fork... say under $125.00? I'm a rather portly fellow so the rebound of the Q21 never affected me :-) but the disintegated bumpers HAVE affected the fork.
I don't do downhill... lots of cross country and touring with high pressure slicks.

Just bought the last Total Air cartridge, so they say, from the Englund Air/Eko Sport folks for the Rock Shox Q21. I don't like having to add air every week or so, and will probably sell the Q21 and the Air cartridge sometime soon . . . when time allows. Anyone reading this interested in trying this Q21 fork upgrade, say the word and I will work out a deal with you! Cost me $97 .. would sell for 1/2 of that (the high cost of trying something new!)

Sorry, I changed out that old fork a long time ago. I now have a solid aluminum touring fork :-)
