Oh pishaw! Just bloody scare tactics. As with motorcycle helmets, it should be a choice not a law.

No, I don't wear a seatbelt. As Shel Silverstein said "You're still gonna, still gonna, still gona die." :)

If your car has a seatbelt, and it's easy for most intelligent people to use.....why not?

Stacey

Why not? A valid question.

You see, I'm rebellious by nature. Ask me to do anything and I'll gladly oblige. However, it will be a cold day in hell before I'll willingly comply with a demand that encroaches on my right to make an intelligent decisison. So yes, because I am told by the lawmakers that I must wear a seatbelt, I excersize my right to make a stupid choice and not wear my seatbelt.

However, Pennsylvania is a a Helmets Optional state for experienced adult operators, guess what... I wear a helmet. Because they have given me the freedom to make that intelligent decission.

You're actually stupid, aren't you?

I quite enjoy driving my '64 Anglia without seatbelts, although to be honest it's become almost a reflex action to wear one when I get into any car.

You wear a helmet on the bike because it's optional, and you refuse to wear a seatblet because it's law.

I can think of no better definition of "stupid".

So, you've done your good deed for the day, belfast-biker, while at the same time feeding your ego and reassuring yourself that you're superior to all of us who decide for ourselves whether or not we use our seatbelts. What else do you have planned for the day?

If the outcome was always death then I say do whatever you want its your life. However, many times the outcome is years in a coma on life support which someone, probably your insurance or govt has to pay for. This in turn raises my rates and taxes. So you decision has an effect on me.

I use my seatbelt every time I get into a car, just like I wear my helmet every time I get on my bike.

You are presuming that I'm actually going to be involved in a catastrophic traffic accident.

Oh, by the way, do you tailgate or speed?

A colleague's partner was involved in a car accident with his, the partner's, friend (a head-on collision). He was wearing a seat belt and ended up with some nasty cuts where it dug into him. His friend wasn't wearing one and they found him in about 4 pieces after he'd gone through the windscreen.

Law or not, I wear a seatbelt.

Another acquaintance had a low speed accident in a crappy old van he was driving and ended up head-butting the windscreen out into the road. Needless to say he wasn't wearing a seatbelt, but he was ok apart from having a headache.

Tracy...you make a stupid choice and dont wear your seatbelt because it's your choice to take a risk on your life? it's proven that it DOES save lives quite often!.. i dont know.. I always like your rebellious attitude and your statements are always superior and bright.. but this one gf? what's wrong? who are you? and what have you done with Tracy???

Well, BlondyGrl hon... Tracy got replaced with Stacey :)

Yes, you've pretty much summed it up in your first sentence... IT IS MY CHOICE.

If I'm being castigated for not wearing my seat belt then perhaps y'all should look at other "high risk" activities like EXTREME Sports and such. This is MY decission, what part of that are you people not understanding? I'm not asking y'all to take my place or even join me. No please back off!

You know I like you as much as a guy can ever like a chick that used to be a dude and all... but I think the flaw in your statement is that you're assuming YOU'RE the one in the accident. It's often not your choice whether the minivan will blow the red at 40mph or not, slam into the side of your car, ejecting you onto the pavement and leaving you in a coma that we'll all have to pay for through our medical premiums.

It is your choice but it's our money. Now if you have a DNR, that's a different story.

Wether I phque up or someone else phques up... it's still an accident, right? All of your (everyones) arguments are based on presumptions, presumptive accident, presumptive coma, presumptive public burden and it dosen't work with me. Yeah, I know... statistics. But for every 10 people that are in accidents, there's hundreds that aren't. I'm not buying the fear, I am NOT afraid!

Yes, I have a DNR.

Im getting out of this thread, tell you why..
so far we have one person who is making CHOICE that it seem noone agrees with, but yet, still HER choice, she has arguments that you may not agree with but they are her articulated arguments and beliefs. As far as the thread goes other than that, we have name calling such as "stupid" for arguments and the usual narrow minded gender attacks on a person. I wont have any part of it. It's degrading and this is not what this forum is about, It's not about personal attacks on an individual when you disagree with them. that is just wrong and not something I believe in.
