ok, i ask this respectfully so we don't get into a li'l thingy like we did with king kog and all. plus i know how many re-load fans there are. anyway i ordered a toptube protector on 12 april and roland emailed me an order confirmation and a seperate email saying my credit card had been "processed".

so i still haven't received notice that it's been shipped--the tracking # they said would be sent when they shipped. not that big a deal, but what up? they charge my card and haven't even shipped.

my emails to roland haven't been answered either.:(

so i'm demanding, but not unreasonably.

any others experience less than swift business with re-load?

thanks!:)

everything's custom, it takes longer. But he should answer your email.

I just got a bag I ordered yesterday. They called me before they shipped, said that my bag should be ready on Friday of last week and that it would ship on Friday at the end of the day or Monday. It didn't ship until Tuesday and I got it yesterday. This indicates to me that they're busy. It was a bit behind schedule, but nothing that I feel the need to complain about. You should just call them if you're that concerned. the numbers on the site. Regardless, there's no doubt in my mind that you'll get it sooner or later.

Call them. I had ordered a bag and it took them 3-4 weeks to make. No big deal. They let me know this up front and didn't charge me until they actually started making the bag.

You ordered it yesterday and got it today - that's damn fast.

This is meant to be a joke, it made me smile but I'm quite tired so apologies if you don't find it funny.

when i ordered my bag i got an email saying that they charge your card when they START making the bag or whatever, not when it's done. i suspect if you go back and read the site and the email confirmations you'll find something to this effect. i also have a feeling shipments only go out once or twice a week, so when you get that tracking number, chances are that it'll be a day or three before the delivery guy picks it up and puts it on a truck.

patience, young grasshopper. only been waiting two weeks!

i've had two custom bags from them over the past couple years. great experience both times, but i agree with those who say call. they are definitely busy, and a quick call could let you know what's up.

Yeah, i ordered a bag in mid-late march and then they called me in the first week of april with some questions on colors and stuff and said they'd cut my materials the next week. I asked how long it would be and they said 3-4 weeks from whenever i had given my cc information. Basically, i waited until 4 weeks had elapsed (which was a weekend so i actually waited until monday- this past one). I called them when i hadn't heard. As it turned out, they had misplaced my order. We got it all straightened out by like 3pm. They called me to come pick up my bag on tuesday at 430pm. So like, definately call them up. I wish i had called earlier and they were very apologetic and sometimes **** just happens but I was quite happy with the response and the product.

i got a bag around january and it went smoothly. they told me they don't charge your card until they actually start making the bag so i'd definately give them a ring and see what the deal is.

just one other thing to add... a bunch of people have pointed out that they charge when they start making the bag and some others have said that they shouldn't charge until they ship. My feeling, and i'm sure it's the same as theirs, is that when you order something custom made, the company needs to charge you when they start making it so you don't cancel and they're left with a custom item that they can't easily sell. I don't know if frame builders do the same thing but i'd imagine it's an up front system too.

i'm pretty sure they send you a confirmation email when your bag is completed, not when it is shipped.

I think posting without making a reasonable attempt to contact the company in question (ie calling said company) does more harm than good... I was waiting for a reload order, called and spoke to roland, and now everything's groovy..
I know the OP didnt intend that at all.. I'm just saying that if your not willing to deal with the people your buying from directly then don't buy from them. People need to learn to have a bit more patience...
I mean:
a. custom work
b. small company thats good at what they do
c. their very busy
d. you havent called

I'd certainly be more into Reload if they hopped onto bikeforums and called brunop a jackass with no sense of style.

who doesn't charge when you order?

For custom work? I don't know, someone with much more faith in people than I have.

However, my BaileyWorks was charged when it shipped, not when I ordered, which is how I expect most of my internet transactions to work.

So custom framebuilder should just wait till they ship the frames before they charge? Nice logic, yeah, custom work should be done before any money exchanges hands.

However, my BaileyWorks (which does not make custom bags) was charged when it shipped, not when I ordered, which is how I expect most of my internet transactions to work (seeing as how I don't roll with custom books from amazon.com, custom cranks from businesscycles.com, or custom pron from yourmomishot.com).

Nice reading comprehension.

So, this isn't related to the REload order promptness, but REload in general. I'm thinking of switching over to a backpack from a mess. bag. I have a Timbuk2 Large and am dissatisfied, mainly because it's too small and also because I have to place everything in perfectly or things stab/poke me or it sits really weird on my back and swings around.

So, will a Midpack be big enough? I am carrying:
Binder, 3-subject notebook, 2-3 novel-sized books, calculator, nalgene bottle, pair of shoes, 2 lights, wallet, phone, sweater and random small stuff.

I can fit all of this in my timbuk2, but it gets tight and awkward. My bag is around 1700 cu inches and the midpack is about 1900. Will everything pack in easier into a backpack or will everything stack up on each other and make it so I have to dig to find anything? Should I have different dimensions made? NOTE: I think that the Backpack from REload will be WAY too big.

My experience:

Went in Seattle store on a Monday to order frame pad. Girl said it should be ready for pick up on Sat. I went back on Sat. Girl talked to girl friend on phone for 20 min while I waited (they were wrapped up in an important conversation about hooking up for dinner). I just stood there... she continued talking on her cell phone. When she got off (her ph), I asked her if my frame pad was ready... She checked and said no but she assured me that they would call me when it's ready. I waited 8 days and thought maybe I should call and just check (cuz now it's been over a week since the date they promised it). Girl answered, and said "oh... it's ready, I guess someone forgot to call you".

The pad is great but I can't say much for my experience with their customer service. Sorry if this offends anyone... it's just the facts of my experience.

Definitely, if you order something custom! When someone orders something from us we get 50% up front if it's something personal, like initials or a name, because who is gonna buy a custom made anythink with "JMK loves DOG" on it if the customer changes their mind? If it's a cool design that someone else could love we don't get a deposit, strong incentive not to change your mind, someone else running around with "your" bag on acting all cool :^)
REload has great customer service, it's easier for them & you being a larger operation to handle payment for everybody one way. You can bet if you paid for something and it shows up wrong or doesn't show up they'll treat you right.

My experience:

:p Bad cell/phone etiquette! Well, I guess I mean that Ro & Ellie will treat you right, along with the 3-4 other folk we've met that work with them. You shoulda slapped that phone outta her too cool hand and said "You ain't paid to watch me wait for you while you pretend you don't see me, ****! Now git muh framepad!"

On the REload thing... I've never said this cuz i knew what response it would get, but i'm moving out of town now, so all bets are off...

I ordered my mini bag from REload as sort of a test for when I got my big bag. I emailed first and had no response within 5 days. I called to order, and the woman on the phone (may or may not have been Ellie) was really short with me and seemed frustrated that I didn't know all their options, etc. I asked some normal questions (turnaround time, cost, customizing options) and got short and gruff answers to each question. In fact, I ended up in with a bag that sort of doesn't match itself because I was so rushed to decide on colors right there on the phone.

This is why my big bumblebee bag is an UTW and not a REload. UTW and Sam have always been patient, friendly, and responsive to me.

Anyway, my point is that in my experience, REload customer service and responsiveness have been pretty poor.

i'm pretty sure they send you a confirmation email when your bag is completed, not when it is shipped.

when I ordered my bag in January I did the order over the phone and didn't get an e-mail until mid-February and that said that they started making my bag. a few days later my bag showed up on my doorstep. kind of confusing, but they are busy and it made for a fun surprise. definitely a really good bag.

I ordered a bag early last week; they shipped it out 2 days ago, according to the bike shop I ordered it from. which is about 1.5 weeks turnaround, which is pretty good. (As an aside, it's nice to order from a shop that orders a lot of Reload stuff because a. they have fabric swatches and know all the different options, b. you can try on the stock Reloads before you get a custom of your own, c. they order a lot, so they have clout, and d. they can recieve it for you, instead of having to be home for the UPS guy.)

I just sent an email to order a bag few days ago, is it better that I just give them a call instead and have them take the order over the phone? Its a present for someone so I'm trying to get this through asap.

I am pretty bummed. I sent them a picture to put on a bag. They emailed me my location so they could give it to the right coast, then never got back to me about it. I decided I didn't really need the picture on the bag anyway so I filled out the form with me choice of colors for their largest bag and they again didn't get back to me.

I ordered it through Cycle Smithy, and R.E.Load stitched this 'CS' in the lower left side without my knowledge. I don't mind, though; Cycle Smithy is a cool shop.
