Commuting - theft deterrent- paint grenades!

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
It's been a while since any thief messed with my bike, but my neighbor just told me that he once had some old rusty wheels (!) stolen off cheap bikes locked outside the building where I live. I don't want anybody to steal my slightly-rusty wheels and there isn't really room indoors for my bike. Not to mention, I'm kinda PO'd that last year somebody tried (and failed) to steal my bike and destroyed the wheel rims in the process.
I have no idea if it would be legal, but I think it would be fun to take some cheap bikes to a place where it's not really safe to leave bikes locked outside, and lock them up with a lock that somehow splatters bright red or orange paint everywhere if you tamper with it.
****ing thieves-- I want my bike to be safe when it's locked outside.
Thought not legal, it sure would be fun... ;)

If you really want to have some fun, set up some military grade CN gas grenades. Again, booby trapping is not legal, but it would be fun.

Even if it's not legal, what is someone going to do? Take you to court for the cost of replacing thier clothes?

Crazier crap has happened in the land of lawsuit-happy america. There's got to be a lawyer out there somewhere that would take that up

What about ceiling hangers for your bike ....
What about ceiling hangers for your bike ....
Pull on the bike and daggers are released from above?
Lock the bike to an electric fence? I mean something like a Krypto lock is insulated (rubber / plastic coated) but if the crook yanked on the bike by the frame, he'd have a shocking experience!

Even if that happens, worst case is that you end up paying for a set of clothes. It's not like you'd get thrown in jail for it.
Hang this on your bike:

Good Luck,

Ingredients:
Roll of "Police Line - Do Not Cross" tape
Chalk
Ketchup packets
Empty brass casing from large caliber bullets
Empty holster
Take the "Police Line - Do Not Cross" tape. Set it up around your bike, leaving a lot of space. Draw an outline of a prone human figure on the ground next your bike. Squirt some of the ketchup into various places of the outline. The head area is the most effective. Toss the empty shells around the area. Attach the empty holster to a conspicuous place on the bike... like the top tube or handlebars.
I'm thinking your bike will be safe.

You know what, i bet the paint-trap-on-bike thing is illegal in the US, but I bet the legislature in any given state could make it legal with nothing more than a majority vote.

Haven't people booby trapped cars? Whys is booby trapping a bike illegal?
btw, the most practical booby trap ive conjured up, taking off the brake calipers, or just ripping the brake line out of em, so anyone riding off on it, might not get too far if he/she doesn't realize in time.

I've heard of booby-trapped cars that shunt exhaust into the cabin to kill the thief. Apparently legal in some places where the car is considered an extension of the home and you're allowed to kill trespassers. Yay for property > life ~_~;
Clothing stores always put inkbomb tags on merchandise. Banks put inkbombs on cash. What's wrong with putting them on anything else?
