so i bought a used stem that is unlike one i've ever seen:

anyone recognize the logo? or for that matter seen a stem that opens up like that? its made in Italy according to its stamp.
i like it a lot, i was skeptical at first but its pretty solid, and would probably get another if i could find one.

No idea about that stem but what kind of lights are those? They look like just what I'm looking for.
Topeak WhiteLite (http://www.topeak.com/2006/products/lights/whitelite.php), theyre awesome

ITM.
How does the hinged part attach to the body of the stem?
the pin part doesnt detach, but if you mean how is it secured, there is an allen bolt on the underside that threads into the silver part about where the oval sticker on top is.

Gotcha. That's awesome.
ITM seems to have made some innovative stuff back in the day. I'm currently hunting down a pair of "Crono Piega" bullhorns that have a great curve and a teardrop shape on either side of the stem.
cool and thanks, their logo makes more sense now, i thought it was some kind of triangular c

I've only found one pic of them online, and it sucks:

Somebody on campus runs these bars occasionally. He switches between the bullhorns and Soma Bozo's, and I only see him sporadically. I'll throw my camera in my bag in case I see him again.
Nice bike Spud, mine's the 2006 Fuji blue. Thanks:)

how does that stem lock? it looks as if you could just pry the top open and steal your handlebars
the above mentioned allen bolt. i'm not terribly worried about them being stolen, seeing as all my other stems use allen bolts to hold the bars and stems to the bike.

nashbar had some stems like that.(maybe still does) they are very very prone to breaking in half.

I've had two of those lights, had one of the LEDs die. One out of the box, the other after about six months. I wouldn't recomend them.

*ehem* the can of beer in that photo of your bike is just a little distracting on a friday morning, spud. i'm thirsty.

That definitely is an old Modolo stem from the early 90s. No doubt. I recognize that logo.

That thing looks like it belongs on Voltron's bike, awesome. I'll let spud be the guinea pig as far as breakability goes before I seek one out though... ;)

Modolo:

Although Modolo's X-Tenos stem shares a similar design to spud's ITM above.
i think a dance contest will have to settle this one.
bellweatherman vs indigosky, step up to the Dance Dance Revolution pads.

Man, if that's how it's going to go down, I'm out. It's like I'm playin twister with myself whenever I've tried DDR.

:o Hehe. Oops. I believe you are correct. That is DEFINITELY an old ITM stem from the early 90s.
too bad you both still gotta compete in DDR!

Hey Spud, just got back in town. Still working on mine, just got me a pair of cranks this weekend, will post some pics of the 06 in a couple of weeks... (also nursing a minor elbow fracture which should heal by then, then its back to riding, yay!)
