That white one is beautiful..

My Chrome just has some extra reflectors and webbing loops sewn on... mildly custom, I guess.
I had to use an industrial sewing machine to put them there.

i don't want to talk about it.

After a baby, apparently, all bladder control is lost. I hear.

The bag is waterproof (the liner is an old outdoor tablecloth). But I haven't tried to carry Madeline in it yet. Wee Maruke is still a bit too young for that.

my little brother used to work for a timbuk2 dealer, so I got this one for like $60 - nothing fancy, though.

my bag isn't a messenger bag [just a ten year old caterpillar record bag] and the only customising on it are some slashes and holes that mean i can't carry anything smaller than a packet of cigarettes in it.

but that bag with the cherry blossom is stunning.

What are the chances a normal sewing machine can sew through a layer of Cordura and vynal?

p3ntuprage
04-29-06, 08:11 PM
low.

after about a year of use on denim and other such things, mine [technically my mum's] required over £100 of repairs.

industrial sewing machines are cheap [£200?]

industrial embroidery machines are not [£1000s]

don't forget other options like silk screen printing which is relatively easy and cheap [you can get a full kit for about £50]

Well, used industrials can get that cheap, and worth every penny. Factories don't tend to let them go until the life is almost all gone, small manufacturers/individuals let them go when they go out of business, so you can get lucky in that way. We've had used, new is the only way to go. Our most recent machine set us back $3200 Cdn, and that's after I went around the dealer direct to his distributor because he was rude to my boss (my wife) which took half a G off the price. MF shouldn't a mouthed off like that. But you can find good machines that aren't that much of an investment.

A decent home embroidery machine is $1000 Canadian, one suitable for small scale production would start at around $4000 Cdn. We don't have one, freehand on a standard sewing machine is our method, we'll never have an automated embroidery rig.

Thanks for the props on the plum tree bag, OP & others!

Re-reading that it sounds expensive! It's not so bad though, I've had bikes that cost more. What I really want is a computer that costs more! One of those new macs maybe....must work harder!

You must be joking. Is all the embroidery on those bags seriously all done freehand on a standard machine? My hat is off to you, sir.

The only truly unique thing about it is the sheath on the bottom for my little league bat. I don't normally ride with it because I don't want it to be an issue should police get involved with anything I do, but cars do leave me alone more when I have it with me.

you don't even want to know what happened when i saw your bag.

also, yeah, might want to wait until mad dog has a little muscle control in that wee wobbly neck before you go hoisting her into the bag. after that i declare: international baby-in-a-bag day.

bring it.

I'm just looking for a sewing machine. The embroidery.. won't be me.. I lack many things. Sensability, and talent being of the two foremost.

Thanks Sparky. I'll keep that on my short list of extra things. Rumour has it I'm selling the Jeep and will be carless when I get home.

i forget to mention; if you do buy an industrial sewing machine from ebay or somewhere, make sure that:

1- it's single phase AC [domestic power] compatable, not three or four phase phase AC [industrial use only].

2- that it's not pneumatic, unless you want to buy a compressor as well.

you can see the word hartford on it if you look. I forget who he said painted it, but I bet a bunch of you guys in here that have been to alleycats around new york/new england have seen it, hell, you've probably seen me too.
