I hate using the bike carrier that attaches to my tow bar( Hitch as the Americans call them).
I want to adapt my 6x4 ft trailer to be able to carry 4 bikes standing upright using crank mounts or similar attachments such as on the Pendle Bike trailer www.pendle-bike.co.uk
Can anyone point me in right direction for a design or advice ?
Might cost a bit, but if you have a trailer already, buy 4 upright roof rack type carriers and mount them either directly to your trailer. Alternatively, build a platform that fits your trailer and has the carriers mounted on it that is removable, so you can use the trailer for other purposes.

fork mount is the best way to go.

You can always make a frame out of 1" pvc tubing. I've seen designs on the net lately, but can't remember where right now. Basically, it's a frame that you set the bike into (on either side of the tires), and then you bungee cord them in. I think I'd only suggest it on a trailer with sides, but if you're looking for cheap, it may be the way to go.
