Ok so when i started biking i was thinking i wanted to Do a Tri

my daily ride is 20-25miles on a fixie no problem (im not tired or anything after that) and i do weekend centuries when they come up.
my running is ok and ive been swimming since i was a toddler but never very fast or very long (lap swimming and such at the gym now mostly)
ive read trifuel and such trying to get my bearings but im still too nervous to sign up for an actual tri... When i do i was wondering if i should sign up for a Sprint or Olympic i was worried that the pace on prints would be too fast of the cut off to quick for me but i dont know, same for Olympic.

Sign up for a sprint. Just do it! Once you do you cant back out cause you would be waisting $50! Seriously though, there are no cut offs, and lots of newbies are out there giving it a go. Sign up for fun, not to compete, for the first one.

now that makes me feel alot better knowing that i wont be the only newb out there screwing around and making mistakes. i guess thats why i went and ordered my first tri bike (once i have money in the hole i cant back out as you said!!)

Dude, You can do it. Check out www.teamnebraska.org and go to race stories. I have a story on there about my first tri. It was a disaster, but here I am today...loving it. You'll love it, too.

C'mon in...the water's great. No cutoffs in sprints dude...Plus you'll probably do it in about 1:30 or less. Think of it as a fun workout.

Just do it!

Most "sprint tri's" are geared to accomodate newbies and they don't mind at all.

my first tri was a sprint distance, there were people of all shapes and sizes(and speeds) as well as bikes(mtn., tri, road and hybrids)

Y'know... if you can already "swim laps at the gym" you're WAY ahead of a lot of other people who are out there doing them. You'll surprise yourself, I bet. Go for it. Seriously, what's there to lose?

I agree with everybody. Just do it!!! Sign up...and there's no backing out! I felt funny calling myself (thinking of myself) as a triathlete when I did my first race. I read every book on triathlon training that I could find...and triathlete magazine. That really helped me to know what to do and what to expect. You can prepare yourself mentally for the race before you do it. Go through every stage in your mind ahead of time and figure out what you will be doing. Then, by the time you are actually there doing the race, it will all come natural!

My first race was a 1/2 Ironman. My second was Ironman Hawaii. ...I've never done a sprint race, so I have no input for you there. ...but I would think that a sprint race would be a great place to start. Olympic distance would be fine, too. Whatever you decide, just sign up, and go for it! You'll be fine!
Enjoy yourself, now!! :) Swim, bike, run, HAVE FUN!
