"The 33"-Road Bike Racing - Dead Dog Classic Stage Race Laramie, Wyoming registration open

Registration for the two day, three stage ACA sanctioned race is now open. The race bible is also now online. You can get the registration link and see the rb at www.deaddogclassic.com. Hope that you all will come up for some high altitude racing this June 24-25. USCF'rs welcome (with one day race licenses).

Also, the Wyoming Collegiate road race and TTT is TOMORROW! Criterium on Sunday. Its the final event on the RMCCC calendar before we send our best to nationals (no doubt to clean up as the R.M. conference does pretty well at doing).

Heh. Yeah today it was freaking 27 and snowing. Nobody brought adequate cold-weather gear. I saw a guy line-up with SOCKS under his helmet and tied beneath his chin as ear warmers. Hell they weren't even clean socks :eek: . I thought about taking the ****ty t-shirt that I wore there and cutting the sleeve off to make a beanie-type thing - but not until I got to the line and saw sock-boy.

I felt uber-strong and then got a flat 10 miles into the race. No neutral support and by the time my teammate who wasn't racing (but had her bike + wheels) found me the pack and the last stragglers had been gone for 10 minutes. Lame. I had half a mind to throw her wheel on while she caught up to the pack and then jump out and get back in there - but the officials would probably **** me and before I could suggest it we saw a nasty crash from the Women's A field and stopped to check it out. Two of my teammates were down, and one from another school (CU I think). On girl who I know pretty well (my roommate's girlfriend) was pretty shaken up but didn't appear to be seriously injured. I don't know how the crash happened, but the other girl from my team was on the ground immobilized with a broken collar bone. the DS was telling her stories from his pro racing days presumably to keep her from going in to shock. The other girl was holding her face with a bloody jacket and sobbing horribly. It was like a war zone. I later found out that girl lost several teeth in the crash and was thus bleeding profusely from the mouth (as well as a deep Ullrich-Style gash in her neck). It was quite intense. Ambulance response time was uh.. pretty good, but they were following the Men's A field, so the CU coach I think jumped in his car and sped off to get the meat wagon.


I hope Dead Dog is less bloody :D I was planning on doing it, but that week is one of two possible weeks for me to get my wisdom teeth cut out (and lord do i need it...) I don't think racing right after that woudl be smart... Hopefully I can do it the other week and miss the Hugo RR.

Man Ih ope they are alright! I rode out the other direction. I volunteered to help today but they never called. Yes it was cold and windy today. Remember last year? Cancelled because of a BUNCH of snow. Wyoming - what can you say.

p.s. At 10p.m. the weather up there is good - 37 degrees and 6 mph wind. Too bad it wasn't a night race!

My race was pretty good. I like the course, actually. The race was fast and aggressive, but nobody could get away until two guys at the very end. I stayed near the front and got 6th or something in the first prime, I sat out the 2nd prime because it was obvious that the prime sprinters weren't going to get a break (we did for a 1/2 - 1 lap after the first one but nobody wanted to work together..) On the third prime lap I said to myself "I want to WIN SOMETHING this year" after a couple of podiums and knowing for sure that I'll upgrade next year. I got on the front and ramped it up quickly. I got a gap, but a guy from Mines bridged and passed me. I jumped on his wheel and held it all the way into the LONG finishing straight. I looked back with about 500m to go and saw there was about a bike length between me and the guy behind me. I rested my arms on the tops, grabbed my shift cables and slowly wound it up, passing the guy from Mines (man it felt like hours when we were sidebyside, both going completely 100%) I beat him to the line by a couple of bike lengths and won the prime.

Unfortunately, I burned a few too many matches in that effort. I got some points for the team though. One of my newer teammates moved up to the front on the counter-attack after the prime (when it felt like my heart would explode) and covered the breaks. With a lap to go I was hanging on in the pack, but not by a whole lot. I spotted my roommate and told him to try to move up and see if he could take the sprint, as I'm not much of a sprinter anyway and I knew I'd get nuked in the last acceleration. He did pretty well (not sure exactly). Turns out a lot of other people got nuked on the final straight and I passed many of them. Of course we may never know my TRUE finishing position as there was NO FINISH LINE CAMERA and they relied on everyone lining up 1/2 a lap after the race was over. Heh.

Sorry I missed your race. A bit early for me. At least there was no wind that early. But I did go down later and CSU looked like they were doing well in the final men's race. Rest assured we have great finish line equipment for the DDC.

yeah I got 8th overall and 4th for divsion 1 it was sort of a free for all in the sprint I have now been told by the DS to pay attention to what lap it is haha.
