Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Wow. What the heck happened tonight?

Not a good thing for the biking community.

Good for a conversation though.

I'm not exactly sure what happened, but I did see a bike that had been absolutely destroyed. The grapevine told me that an SUV had done this, dragging the bike for some ways. There didn't appear to be anything salvageable on the bike. The pedals had been snapped off the cranks, the fork and wheels were bent to hell, and the seat stays may have been broken, too. I do not think anyone was injured, though.

People had stopped in the middle of an intersection, and the cops (with some paddywagons) showed up. I stood on the sidewalk and saw at least one person get arrested. It was definately not a good situation.

It doesn't really have anything to do with chicago critical mass, but in the santa cruz critical mass tonight, some ****er in a big lifted truck ran over someone's bike while we were going thru an intersection and sped off. made me furious.

Bad spring time energy floating around?

Seattle mass was great, but seemed to be more hostile cars than im accustomed to.
Nothing like chicago happened, but definitely a bit more hostility in the air.

How was Aurora? I had to take off right before.

quote from police officer's bullhorn on aurora:
"Please move to the right. Clearing the left lane will allow you to share the road with the cars."

Aurora was lovely, no hostile drivers (there was a cop leading the pack of cars). I left right after we crossed the bridge.

Was the "clear to the right" call on a street with 2 lanes in your direction or one?

I liked when the cops said, "Get on your bikes and ride."
