General Cycling Discussion - What did you get for Christmas

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Dan really loves me, I got Barnett's 4th edition! I also got a Park Pizza cutter, and my boss gave me a Timex Speed+Distance System. Bandit isn't quite strong enough! Best of all, my daughter called, my son & his girlfriend spent the day, my brother-in-law came, and my Mom called. For our family that counts as being together for Christmas. I hope all of you had an equally wonderful day, and wish you all safe and happy New Year's.

Yesterday morning's ride was about the best gift I could have ever got. A southerly wind cooled conditions down and I got to ride through pockets of mountain mist, watching the smaller clouds rise up through the surrounding valleys. The dairy fields on the Beechmont Range were greener than at any other time over the last six months - the only yellow bits were the little flowers that were growing on these fields.
Even the rainforest around Lamington National Park seemed to have renewed vigour after the previous night's storm. I've been riding up to Binna Burra now for almost eight years, drawing strength and inspiration from it. It's power remains undimished.

Still snowy over there? It was a close call over here, I got called out on an outage monday night about midnight, LOTS of monday's snow had melted by the middle of the night. It started back up about 2 AM and snowed hard until about 9 AM. If none of monday's would have melted I figure we would have 14" - 16" on the ground...
Performance Shorts
Performance Jersey
Performance Tites
Swim Paddles
and a really cool underwater Speedo swimming radio! It clips to your goggle strap and two ear plugs pump mind numbing tunes all while you complete the workout!

I got a Hawaiian shirt with bicycles on it- don't know where Gina found that. And most of all, hopefully no more complaints about putting my bike on airplanes. I got a bike carrier with a carrying strap with wheels on it.. My wife said she could not take any more of my tantrums- when the airlines beats the hell out of my bikes.. Rarely do we have a vacation where I don't take my bikes.
Oh yes. Other cycling gift of the day. Rode 31 miles before company arrived. And it was sunny and nice. So far the grand total mileage for year 8,701 miles as of today. Six days to go..
Think the airlines charges extra for a bike if it is in a box that makes it look just like luggage- just a far bigger box..

I got some CD's and stuff I am buying myself a Bianchi Grizzly for a new commuter/fun bike but it will be March before I pay for it. The coolest thing I got though was a bottle opener made with part of a chain and part of a chain ring. A very clever device the chain acts as a handle for the chain ring part to pop a bottle top or use the chain on twist off tops or the gear teeth to open a can of beverage very cool. And of course it included a couple of local brewed IPA's to try it out on.

My girlfreind got a Schwinn Shock "O" Pump,http://www.bikeworld.com/jpg4/pumpshx.jpg as well as a copy of Lance's "It's Not About the Bike" for me. Her brother came through with a Cateye EL-300 http://www.cateye.com/images/el300.jpg and a Specialized T-shirt (I can't believe it's my first bike related shirt!)
This is something my girlfriend's mom came up with that I thought was pretty cool. http://www.hogwildtoys.com/images/Update%205.02/SW2Group.jpg It's called a SnapWatch and it's basicaly a small waterproof watch with snaps on both sides that attaches to a section of climbing rope.
I think I'm pretty lucky to have friends and family that are as supportive of my cycling as mine are. I hope everyone's holiday was as nice as mine was and I wish all of you the best in luck and health for the new year.
I got one big box. When I pulled off the wrapping, I saw that the box said 'Performance Bike'.
Inside were 2 shorts, 2 IlumiNITE leg warmers, 2 pair Defeet socks, 2 glove liners and a polyprop undershirt. - exactly what was on my list. ;)
I also got the extended version of the LOTR dvd.

A couple of shirts, the latest CDs by Beck and Bush, 12 bottles of Starbucks Mocha Frapuccino (YUM!), a couple of other small things...
I was hoping for some bike tools that I didn't get. Oh, well, I'm not in it for the loot and I can always buy them myself. The only bike-related item (unless you think Frapuccino counts) I got was this book (http://www.ltolman.org/99arch/ironridersbook.htm) which someone very special gave to me. I've read a couple of chapters, and it's pretty good.
I just ordered the '01 TdF DVD as a post-Christmas present to myself. I always get the Tour Videos a year late when they are cheap.
The best "present" of all was my mom's pathology reports. None of the surrounding tissue was implicated. Without going into detail, she is going to be fine. It was especially good to have the family around me this Christmas.

It appears that bicycle riders are very definitative in their request for Christmas gifts....not only size, but type, color, exactly which grouppo to match, etc.
This only goes to prove that a bicycle rider is strong willed, opionated and aggressively verbal.

Sigma Sport Targa cyclocomputer
Not a bad haul! :D
This year was our turn to host both families (hers and mine both since they are all local to us) and a wonderful Christmas was had by all!

Here's more, very interesting!

Nothing cycling related here. Mostly clothes (some that I might wear while cycling) and a spare tire (from eating too much).
The most memorable event of the holidays was the dish my mother-in-law brought to x-mas dinner. Shredded cabbage (green and red) and carrots in lime jello, served with a layer of mayonaise on top! I took a hit for the family and tried it. GOD!!!! If it wasn't nasty enough to start with that slimmy miracle whip going down my throat just about killed me.
I realize there is a long history of jello dishes in the Midwest, but of the millions of receipes in the world why would anyone pick this one? And the scariest thing is that this same veggy and jello gene may be lurking somewhere in my wife. I have this fear that some day when I'm too old to see, taste or complain (well, maybe not complain) she'll plop a dish of this down in front of me (probably in revenge for giving her Mom so much crap). If it ever comes to that, all that I can hope is that a cell phone talking redneck in a pick-up truck will take me out while I'm out on my daily tricycle ride!
Oh no, Easter dinner with the in-laws is only a few months away!!!!.

Got an espresso machine and a reflective vest. My wife likes coffee almost as much as me, and she worries when I go out riding. Since all of my riding has been during daylight, I think I'll tell her the vest is permission to buy lights and ride at night.

What about you guys? Did you all have a good Christmas?
jim311 - You've got your XOs before mine. If you experience anything untowards whilst fitting them, could you let us/me know about it? I should get my XOs next week sometime. I'm aiming to fit in Feb when my wife goes back to Joburg for 3 weeks as I'll have lots of time then.
What did I get? XO for one - almost. Boxes of nuts (edible kind), lots of socks, hair clippers, and a Nikon Coolpix 5700 - almost, as I'll be getting that next week.
Hair clippers, you ask! I'd been asking for a haircut for ages and Caroline usually does mine. She'd been muttering about clippers to make it easy. So had I. What I did not know is that she bought some for me! So, I went from maybe 10cm average hair length down to a breathtaking 1cm! I look like a convict, a bouncer, someone who'd be rounded up as a suspect in the Great Granny Pension Robbery.:D
First time in my life I've ever had hair that short, and funny thing is I might go shorter! I used to hate riding with long hair, and I could not tolerate having a sweaty, dank, mat hanging over my face. Now, I'm looking forward to when I can get back on the bike, so in a way, a radical haircut was maybe the best material present.
If I could only have a new pancreas (I'm Type 1 diabetic) then I'd be real happy all over again.
First the most important; (2) $25.00 gift certificates to my lbs  I also got the usual clothing.

This year the hub swore off getting me anything bike-related but I guess his muses failed him and he couldn't come up with anything else besides a new bottle of White Lightning Race Day and a pair of gel shorts.
Thank god it wasn't cookware or home furnishings!

The only cycling related thing I got for Christmas was a track pump.
Apart from that there was the usual CD's and a couple of DVDs.
Oddest present? My brother sent me a coffee cup that could easily hold a couple of pints. Drink one of those and I'd be on the ceiling all day!
New Speedplays! And $500 cash from my mum that my LBS will probably end up with.. :D
It's supposed to be in the 60's tomorrow. Life is good!
Oh, and a friend of my hubby's gave him new cycling socks and gloves. I got a shopping basket that clips on the front of my commuter.
