Today we hit 1,000 miles on our triplet (purchased in mid-October)! It has been a blast and there is no end in sight. We’ve had very few problems (other than the constant desire to get more stuff). We just found out that Dawn will be able to ride the Bike Across Kansas with Jamie and I! So the triplet will be full. That’s another 500 miles plus all the training beforehand. Then the MS150 in September, not to mention all of the summer riding around town and things.
Thanks for all the support so far. I have read many inspirational stories and had numerous questions answered on the list. I’m so glad we found tandem cycling while we are young! It’s certainly the best way for us to exercise. We get to stay in shape and spend lots of time together. Plus, we can hitch up the trailer and enjoy the great outdoors on a self-supported tour! Who knows, maybe after I finally get out of school (another 4 years), we’ll have the money to tour other countries, too.
Used Triplet (3,000), Child stoker Kit (250), clothes x3 (200), pedals and shoes x3(250), DIY car rack (75), DIY trailer (75), DIY headlight and lots of rear/side lights (150), rear rack and stoker Hbar bag (70), most recent addition of a Sprung Brooks saddle for rear stoker (100).
RIDING TOGETHER AS A FAMILY: PRICELESS! I paid for the bike with government subsidized student loans. I figure I will pay it off someday when I get out of school and have a real job. Since I recently got in a Phd program, I have no doubt that the finances will eventually work out.
Looking forward to many more years and many more miles of tandem riding!!!
