Mountain Biking - Wife bought me a Bruiser today :)

Was in the LBS yesterday and was checking out a Bruiser 1 they were trying to get rid of. I really liked the feel of it and have been wanting to get a smaller-framed bike for dj/trials/messing around on. I also wanted to get something solid and cheap I could upgrade and tinker with. So this bike fit the bill and felt perfect too. I was thinking of going back today and maybe grabbing it, but low and behold when I woke up this morning (11:30), I had a new bike waiting in the living room. I love my wife. :D

I got the 14.5", feels like the perfect mix of trail-bike and bmx.

Wow, what a wife. Ya know, consider yourself lucky. Not because your wife bought you a sweet ride, but because your wife is so supportive of your hobby. It could just be the way you approach biking, too. Make sure to let her know how much you appreciate her and how envious all of your peers here in MTB world are.

My wife is jealous of my biking hobby. 1. Because I talk about it all the time. 2. Because I'm always taking time away to go out and ride. (not like every day) 3. Because I have an active hobby where I lost 33lbs having so much fun.

Don't get me wrong, my wife is supportive too. I just think I could spend less time around her talking about bikes and maybe I would wake up to a bruiser in my LR. I just wear her out with it all.

GREAT! The bruiser 1 is a great bike, especially in the 14.5 size. My only warning to you would be to watch that fork. They don't last very long.

Yeah that isnt a very good fork. I would watch out for it. Also Awesome your lucky!

and they're right about the fork. i'm just waiting for mine to really crap out on me so i can buy a new one.

you'll love it I have the same bike, parts are "eh" like the others said, but extremely versatile as far as upgrading goes.

Like MattP said, fortunately we share this hobby, and she is actually the one that got me back into it (wanted a bike to ride around, and I started remembering how much I used to love MTB). She's really taken to it though, wanting to ride every off-day we have, and asking me to teach her to wheelie/bunny-hop...My best advice for someone trying to get your wife into it is buy a bike SHE really likes, and take her to the funnest/easiest trail possible for the first time out, even a paved bike-path is good while they get comfortable shifting, etc. Maybe YOU should surprise your wife with a bike in the LR, lol? (Reminds me of the Homer bowling-ball...)

Regarding the fork, yeah I didn't really expect it to last too long, so I'll probably wait till it craps out and then put something quite sweet on there. I'd also like to put some disc brakes on there pretty soon - going from HFX-9's on my other bike to these Tektro's is definitely a difference. They get the job done for now though.
