What's the catch? It allows you to jump over the flatbed or an SUV, run at 20mph.... seriously, what's the catch? Does it require a serious amount of fitness to use - I mean, the stored up energy out of these things has to come from somewhere?
And if it's so good, when is the extra battery powered mine-proof US Military version coming out? :)
What the...? Looks interesting.

The catch is where he guesses wrong and ends up landing straddle on a railing like that, or smashes his head on a streetlamp and ends up in front of a speeding bus.

When you hit the ground?
It's not stored up energy, just better efficiency over running.
I mean, you're going 20mph on the bike and it's powered by nothing more than your body too.

If the possible injuries weren't so gruesome I would totally try those. I think a new sport could get started.
i saw some weird chick wearing those here a while back.... i had to stare because it was so weird.... so don't get this if you don't like people staring at you thinking "damn! that's weird!"...

But, imagine playing basketball or volleyball with one of these :)
A fall would be brutal. They need an ejection button, so you can try to land on your feet.

Those have been around a while. I remember working in a sports shop 5 years ago and a company demoing them. They were amazingly fun from what I was told.

I think they were first implemented in b-kung fu movies. :D

Kangaroos and gazelles make some of the most efficient use of energy in getting around. Now we can do it too! :)

Wow. so now when I see people running and I think of how many bones in their body they are smashing, these guys are beating that by crushing their bones and joints at 2-4 times the speed/force. Stupidity prevails again :D

The implications for freerunning are pretty good.

Looks like a wonderful way to snap your leg in half. They might be fun for just jogging around, but in no time people would be testing the limits and creating a windfall for osteopaths.

Looks like fun to me. Couldn't be any harder on the old joints than 20+ years of skateboarding.

The question is, do you understand the physics of skating?

No springs, no shocks. Just polyurethane, aluminum and wood between you and the pavement. Yea, skating is much easier on your joints. ;)

Actually, I would think they cause less impact stress on the skeleton than running. It's the much more traumatic falling I would worry about.

The peak G-force on the bones and joints would be lower due to the spring. Upon impact with the ground, you decelerate within 6-10" with that thing as opposed to within less than 1/4" with running shoes. The spring also stores up that energy and gives it back to you on the rebound. :)

They look cool but my knees started hurting at the thought of landing too far forward. I want a video of someone bouncing through a crowed mall with some.
Oh the days of launching off a staircase at speed, sticking the landing and accelerating away.

There actually was supposedly a video about somebody that had something similar. I am not sure if the video was 100% real though
