Mountain Biking - Second wheelset for my Cannondale, how to find right set...

I use my Cannondale f600 for trail riding, but for commuting sometimes. Was thinking of getting another set of wheels that I could pop in with a more street like tread. I have the avid mech disc brakes on my current setup. Is there an affordable set of rims out there that I can setup to work with my bike? Or is this something I will have to do through the lbs. I checked with one lbs, and it would run 400-500 to start.

Pricepoint.com will KILL those prices. I just got a set of Rhynolites on XT disc hubs for $140

You could even get a set of Deore hubs with the lower level Mavic rims for less than 100 bucks.
