Hi All,
I am new to the forum. Live in Finland, 181cm long (5 foot 11 inches?), inseam 85cm (33.5 inches), skinny and I would appreciate your opinions for my near-future bicycle purchase.
At the moment I am riding a Marin sausalito 1996. So it is a hybrid in some way. However it's conditition and frame size (too big for my taste) won't satisfy me anymore. So it is time for brand new bike!
I am not a professional bicycle rider, just like riding and commuting with good gear.
Need bike for:
Commuting (90% asphalt 10% gravel)
Fast city riding (hard and fast acceleration and braking, aggressive style in general)
Road trips (max 40km/25miles)
Want bike to have:
28" (or 700) tire size
Straight handlebars
disc brakes
comfort ride (frame?)
fast ride
fast acceleration
durable rims
red colour
I have gathered few canditates for myself. First I thougt that these new city/urban bikes such as cannondale bad boy would be perfect for me. Then I heard aboat cyclocross and one of my friend told me that I won't need the suspension fork and good cx bike with carbon fork does the same thing for my driving.
So I then started looking these cx bikes. And now I can't decide which one would be better for me (bad boy-style or cx). Ofcourse I need to ride them and compare, but at the monent I don't have chance to do it.
Felt's F1X seems to be nice, alltought changing it to be straight handlebar and disc brake bike costs quite abit. Also the frame only kit is expensive and hard to get here in Finland.
I have thought that getting a good cyclocross frame and building custommaid bike to it would be great idea. Perhaps frame made by Orbea (and custom painted to red) and fit it with:
carbon fork
straight handlebar
105/ultegra OR deore 2006 OR combinations
avid OR deore discs (mech or hyd?)
28" x 28mm-35mm tires
deore xt disc hubs+spokes+Mavicin CXP22
Cheap and good other parts?
But my consern is that would the cx-frame with sraight handlebar make the bike's geometry abit weird? and secondly what are the main differences between bad boy ultra and cx-bikes. And how are they different for me.
And theoretically what would be the optimal frame size for me (is there way to calculate it or is it more a taste kind of thing?) As I said my current bike's frame is to my knowlegde too big (frame size might be 22inches or 21 (54cm-56) but I might be wrong). It is not so maneuverable that I would like it to be.
I know that there are no right answers but opinions and thoughts are all very well come, thank you.
Best regards
