Anyone did it???? At mile 15, if you are the one who caused a silly crash at a highway incline while the pack was riding at tempo, you have no business racing!!!!! I am pissed. We lost the pack when 10 of us got caught in that stupid crash.

Why didn't you dial your power meter to turbo boost and jump the crash?

5's, 4/5's, 3/4's, Pro/1/2's .... we all crash and it's part of racing. I understand your frustration, but didn't we figure this out a few weeks ago?

Me and the bike are fine. I was able to stop and unclip without crashing the guy in front of me. I was bumped from the back and caused my chain to drop. I lost 10sec to the pack there just to get moving again. 3 of us trying to bridge and drafting behind a pickup truck. :D It was pointless. We weren't gaining any time on the pack and the course was getting windy at that point.

Sorry, if you like to be taken out your race contention by a silly crash, go right ahead and enjoy it. If you have problem keeping your bike straight when the pack was riding at tempo, you have no business racing.

Just playing Devil's advocate here...but...
In a race, people jockey for position. It's part of the game. If people are riding on the edge, and trying to block aggressive moves by other riders bumping can happen...sometimes a little too much. Sometimes people go down.
Crap happens. It's racing. The only field I've yet to see anyone go down in is Masters 55+
The juniors in the field were especially squirrelly but frankly everyone is to blame, when we spend the whole race that slow with no teams taking charge stupid things like that happen.
Be happy you aren't bleeding.

I spent a lap with the Master after that before the Blue Ribbon guys drilling it in and stretching the pack to pieces on the 3rd lap.
The field in the 3/4 got pulled to pieces?

Happened to a team-mate of mine about a month ago. He was off the bike for two weeks, recovering from his bumps and bruises.
Every cat. crashes.

Yeah, the thing about those Masters 55+ guys is that (at least around here) most of them used to be pros or cat 1s. They have excellent bike control still, but have lost some of the crazy aggresiveness and have gained a desire to prevent themselves from breaking a hip or collarbone.
R600, don't be a *****. 10 seconds isn't that much of a gap anyway for christsakes.

I want to point out a pretty much unknown in the pro peleton and his account of a crash last week. I like to think road racers are a classy and cerebral bunch and this a great example. Just for kicks, next time we are crashed or held up by one, give it a story we might be able to relate to without the whining.
Here's the post I'm referring to. May 1st (http://www.dougollerenshaw.com/index.html)

Please, "classy?" Sure dude, when I become a pro.......:D Remember, you ever cause a silly crash, don't expect kind words from the pack. Just a fair warning. If couple of guys walking over to you after the race because you caused a silly crash, pull the "pros don't that" to see if they stop beating the day night out of you. Remember, a lot of us have jobs and families to go back to after the race. A lot of us train hard and every eager to get results, especially with the cat4 field. You are damn right they will get "upset" if your silly crash put them out of the race. Worst if they are injured.

You talk really tough for a guy with no results to speak of. Are all your finishes someone else's fault?

Don't worry dude, it will come. There is a reason why I train 15 hours a week and expecting to peak twice in the season. :) Tough??? You are damn right.

Another scintillating thread by the beloved R600. Move this to the Road Cycling forum so everyone can enjoy.
R600 -- I'd be pissed too. But if you're going to peak twice, then you'll get some other chances right? At least you and your bike are fine.

All the Spring races are flat or rolling. I have no problem keeping up with the 3s and pro 1 and 2 in these races. When they go hard, I get shelled. I will be at 140% of my FT when they are just riding at threshold. :D When you are 130lb, you just don't have raw power to keep up with the speed. Pack reading and bike handing skilling becomes cruical. Got to work on staying out of the wind. From June till Sept, all hilly races. For 5 minutes I can generate 6w/kg.

All I need to do is "to be able to" generate that kind of wattage "couple of times" in a 60+ miles race.......:) Then, I will be in business. Is getting there.......I hope. :)

Once again you prove yourself to be the most immature member on BF.
Dude, you ***** way too much, the field played ***** and we paid for it when 1 in 100 guys got sloppy. The pace was slow you should've been at the front if you're that strong. I'd focus more on results, less on numbers, you might wind up like Don Sproul - the fastest cat 4 ever ;) (man who can TT roughly like a cat 2, but can't race for jack and thus remains a 4, or that was the last I've heard of him)

Don't worry, I will give you guys a heads up when I am a cat3. BTW, Dr, you will SEE me a lot racing in PP also. Don't say I didn't give you a heads up. :) In fact, I will also be at FBF race as well after the Bear Mountain Classic.

You can come out and beat on me in the RRs and crits. Let me know when you are ready to step up to the race of truth :)
I don't know if I will be doing Bear mountain (though probably the Silvermine TT), but are you going to do the GMSR? I know, way off subject, just wondered when I would finally get to see you race!

In case you don't know, my 1 hour average power is 250w without any aero advantage other than my front 60mm Hed Stinger wheel. It jumped from 237w during March to 250w now. Looking forward to the June NJ State TT and NYS TT (both are 40km). Just trying to find some 40km TT within 3 hours driving distance. I think they are 2 weeks before the Housatonic race. What's a GMSR??? Some kind of Tour ride? I either race or train. I don't just ride around to other places.

Been full for months already. Actually, spots were all filled up within 8 hours. Couple of my team mates couldn't register in time. Here is a good preview of the race:

Is not easy. THE climb isn't steep and long enough to shred the field. There are a lot of open area that you need to hide from the wind. There are couple of fast sections after the climb. Of course, there is the infamous 50+ mph descent followed by a hair pin turn. To add some spice into the race, there a lot of first timer racing this course or/and newly upgraded cat4 as well.

That's in Colorado??? Most likely not because of work and the necessary expense required. It could be fun but I doubt that if I am ready for it.

No, Vermont. Later in the season.
mmmmmm, Bear Mountain, top race that one. Did it in the pouring rain a few years back. Could hardly see on those fast descents, braking was suspect. Excellent fun !!! :)
