Keep in mind the quotation in your sig. Be who you are. Become who you may be.

Have you considered an off-season weight program to rehab/strenghten the areas prone to injury.Cycling tends to create muscle inbalances due to overusing /developing certain muscles leaving opposing/supporting muscles/joints in a weakened state and suceptible to injury. The shoulder and knee are very suceptible to these types of injuries (particularly the knee for cyclists)and weights can target those muscles that need strengthening to prevent inbalance/injury. Just a though as if you have the potential its a shame to see something preventable like this stop you.

For me the competitive aspect of cycling is unimportant.. On another thread, I think Velecipido responded, if you do not love the act of cycling- eventually the competitive spirit will destroy the love of cylcing and its aerobic/ health benefits..
I know the last couple days- over the holidays- the lack of cycling has lead to another kind of health problem. Overeating and lack of exercise.. What an miserable feeling.. I felt just lousy today. When got to work, the melaise of lack of activity- I stated mabye a couple days of fasting on water and alka seltzer- might get me over this physical slump..
Changing training regimes to respect your weak links, but going to nothing is really self destructive. The love of cycling and getting about on the bike and being able to climb mountains- even if not normally along with the fastest of the pack- does not phase me. Or riding 200 mile days...Just completing that what I love is enough for me...
I believe too much competitive spirit is self destructive and results in ruining that which you love..That is what I think..Just the thought of maybe having the opportunity to upgade to a Colagno or DeRosa- what a thrill. Like the thought to some of getting in that new Mustang.
I used to wear dive t shirts daily. Now, more often it is of cycling events, I have attended. A favorite was sold by Adventure Cycling. It was a dictionary definition of bicycle. It says.
(bi' sik.'l), n. A Light vehicle having two wheels one behind the other, a steering handle, a saddle seat or seats, and pedals by which it is propelled. 2) The Noblest invention of humankind.- v.i- bicycler or bicyclist..
ps- Guess the definition of number 2- is not in Webster's, but Adventure Cycling's ad on...

In fact re-reading my t-shirt, "The noblest invention of mankind," just made me wonder about the creation of the bicycle.. Will look for books of the subject. Seems its inventor was significant? Maybe Da Vinci? DaVinci the painter/ inventor? Got me off on another potential thread...
Something like Bicycle, noblest invention since the horse..

This thread is just begging for someone to make a speech about roadies who came back from gun-shot wounds or cancer... but I won't. You've got way more good stuff ahead of you. Keep your options open, at least until some time has gone by and you have more perspective on these set backs.

:) I'm 18- I've been racing the last 5 years of my life. I guess I kno there are other options out there, and its not my true love or calling (if that makes sense) I love biking, there is no other feeling i get than on the bike, but I don't want what I love to limit me...:)
