Some guy in West Virginia just won a little over $300,000,000 in the Powerball Lottery. If I had been the winner, I would have bought 103,000 high end road bikes @$3,000 each. With the money left over, I'd build a huge new garage to house them all. What would you buy had you been the winner?:D

The only thing I can think of is I'd pay off the $4000 I have left on my student loan, then quit my job and work towards my Masters full time. I'd put the rest of the money under my mattress. :)

I would buy a big mansion with loads of land buy a few more horses and get myself a cool bike after giving the rest of the money to my parents!!! :D

Looks like he opted for the 112M instant payout. SWEEET.

He said he was going to give the first 10% to his church. Thats what I call tithing <sp?> There's a church thats getting a new rectory!

I'd probably pass out from trying to decide what to do with my dough. Maybe I'd hire the USPS team to tow me through the TDF route. That'd be fun... for me anyway. :D

Hi,
I think I would need to spend some time planning. It is, after all, a rather large world.
In the summer in Hawaii, you can drive up and into
the top of mountain that still has a volcano cone.
There are meteor showers that time of year, and from that location it's sadi it looks like you could reach up and touch them. I think a B+R tour through the vinyards of France would be tolerable, as would a tour through the lakes region of Italy.
I lived in Vienna for a few months, and would love to spend some time there; and perhaps do some biking in Austria. I haven't been to England,Japan, Australia, the list goes on and on, and there are usually a number of things worth doing in each. There is a fruit (I think this is Indonesia) that smells really bad, but the taste of said fruit is reputed to be almost addictive.
But ot get the full flavor you have to go up into the mountains where it's freshly picked. I used to buy some of the world's best coffee in the Seventies. It has gotten insanely expensive. And I am definitely not talking about Starbucks, or anything remotely like it. Flying lessons, it would be nice to have a plane.

Late,

when were you in Wein?
My absolute favourite city, period. Lived there
for a few months (summer) about 6 years ago, I love it.
IF I won, I'd buy a Confente, 67 Masi, New Serotta CSI,
and probably a house to keep em.
Probably spend some time diving (micronesia, truk, fiji, thailand),
and either open a dive shop, or an audio emporium.

I would buy 2 DH bikes, a Giant DH Team and a Santa Cruz Vbb-10. Buy a subaru outback, and retire all on the same day. Retire?, I don't even have a job right now.:D :D

Actually, the government would be taking their 50,000 road bikes off the top. I guess you could get by on 53,000 bikes though. :D

Hi lotek,
I did a semester abroad there in 1972; about a million years ago. I loved it. At that time, the Vienese made half the money Americans did. Despite that, they dressed better, by and large ate better tasting food, and had a positive attitude towards life distinctly missing in Seventies Americans. I had dreams for 20 years of going back. One of these years I'll do it. Problem is, I was in Europe for 6 months, it's hard to imagine going back for just a week or two. Did you ever get to Salzburg? I'd like to go back to the Augustiner Keller too. Getmutleichleit!

I would take the 30 year payout- I'm only 33 so I would probably live long enough to collect it all. Then I'd pay off my house and credit card and go bicycle touring for months at a time.

If you have the luck most people have, you'd get hit by a bus while crossing the street in front of the lottery office. :D

The guy was shown on CNN(?) last night. They said he was taking the cash option and after taxes would get about $115,000,000. He said he will continue working at his job. WHAT?? What an idiot!!! Life is too short!

Let's see now...
a better server for BikeForums, a new Colnago, a new Merlin, a new Litespeed Vortex, a new Trek 5900, some $$$ to .......

over / under on years before he goes negative?

long history of people who win jackpots who do so. but that happens with normal winnings, you know, under 20 million. but this guy. . . maybe he won't die so penniless.

Hmmm I think I'd have to buy a new Merlin bike, full campy... top of the line stuff.... then retire and just ride... man those Merlin bikes are pretty... I think I would opt for the quick payout... invested wisely, you can make more that you initally won in the long run.. seeing as how I'll be 28 on sunday, and figure I have another 60 or 70 years left in me... I think i'd do ok :-)

maybe i'd buy a new surfboard too, and a house ont he beach to keep it there ;-)

I would build a word class indoor velodrome, take care of my family ($2 - 3M for each member, including myself), and then give the rest away. I really would not want that much money, i would never sleep, worring that i would loose it! As for the charitys i would give to, would include IMBA, LAF, BikesBelong, LoAB, Corbra, ACA, USDCA, RUSA, etc etc. I would also sponsor a MAJOR multi-stage road bike race in the states, and work to keep it anual in the states for years to come.

I'd buy a really big stick to keep all my new "friends" at bay.

I'd probably let someone else handle the money for me...and then live off of a monthly allowance

I think Heinlein said it best in "Stranger in a Strange Land" - when you have immense wealth along the lines of 300M, instead of setting you free, as most of us would suppose, it actually imprisons you.

I'd probably use it to visit the world, experience different cultures, learn new things...and then go back to school. After all, you can only mindlessly travel the world for so many years before even something like that can get boring.
