"The 33"-Road Bike Racing - Anybody know just how much weight Floyd Landis has lost?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. I wasn't aware that Floyd lost weight until I heard it from Bobke today on the delayed T of G telecast.

I'm sure it's a big reason why he's dominating this year, in addition to his awesome talent!

If the Tour De France was held right now, I would put big money on him to win the whole thing. :D

I have no idea and haven't heard any rumors either. Although I did attend an Allen Lim clinic and he said that last year in the TDF, Floyd had bronchitis!! Said he was coughing up "green lugies" a lot and grossing people out. Imagine what he could do if he weren't sick. Well I guess we've seen a bit of that so far this season!

Regarding the duel with Danielson on Brasstown Bald, do people think it is because Floyd is getting that much more fit or is Danielson hyped up too much?

I also heard somewhere that during the days with postal, that Landis actually beat Armstrong in a lactate test?

Yep.

Good stuff. Floyd is so much cooler than Lance.

Regarding the duel with Danielson on Brasstown Bald, do people think it is because Floyd is getting that much more fit or is Danielson hyped up too much? I think 3 things were going on: 1) Landis is lighter and climbing better, 2) Disco's tactics backfired, and 3) Popovych is no Armstrong.

Disco believed, and Landis concedes, his weakness is changing pace on climbs and matching accelerations, he'd rather climb at a steady pace. To play this Disco attacked with Popovych and tried to mix the pace up. It didn't work, and in fact allowed LAndis to recover when the pace slowed.

Also Armstrong played a significant role in helping Danielson win on Brasstown last year. This year, while Popo did a good job leading up Brasstown it wasn't enough to hurt LAndis, and Landis just wasn't concerned with Popo's accelerations. If it would have been Armstrong attacking off the front on Brasstown, you can bet it would have gotten a different reaction from Landis.

Floyd is a total dork. Which DOES make him appealing. But 'cooler'?? Please. Get a grip. God what a bunch of insufferable weenies.

I hope I have some Fredcedrin left. It's probably all gone by now.

Oh yeah, Popo was DEFINATELY no Armstrong on Brasstown Bald. That 'I caught you guys and now I'm going to try to steal the stage' move (on his own team leader) was particularly lame because he cracked so bad in the last 300 meters. If you're going show up your team's designative GC man for a Stage Race, at least SUCCEED in the attempt.

Lemond would have NEVER done that. He would have CRUSHED everybody in the same situation. But that was Lemond. Not 'the next great cycling hope', but a guy who actually WON a couple of Tours. Popo schmopo. Let's see if he has better form in France. Disco better hope so...

I watched that Sunday afternoon.
The battle up Brasstown was great.

I kept expecting the kid to jump and pull away, but every time he tried anything big 'ole Floyd was right on his wheel.

A) Seems like a nice, down-to-Earth guy
B) Cool? I think not.
C) His name is Floyd.
D) So his family is Amish?

I'm just starting to follow more now about some of these guys since SOMEBODY new has got to win the TdF.

Landis has looked awesome thus far I must say....

Maybe I'm waaaaaaaaay off base here, but I was kinda of the opinion that somebody whose name doesn't sound like it was made up by some editor from Boys' Life, whose parents are Amish, who is modest and soft-spoken until the flag drops, who kicked a__ in MTB racing until he needed a new challenge, who shows all the Euros and Californicators the way in not one...not two...but THREE major events this spring, and who pops wheelies on the Champs Elysees on his carbon fiber road machine WAS cool.

As far as his weight goes, I guess he's lost just enough to dust a bunch of insufferable weenies like Dave Z, Bobby J, Levi, Tommy D, etc., etc.

FEAR THE BARBER!

i didn't hear anything about the weight, but you are right. he definately looks alot thinner than last year. speaking of nicknames, i've been thinking... why not call him landis the mantis. that's what he looks like in time trials with his arm position and those huge goggles. plus, phonak is green. -jk

I met a bunch of the TDF riders when I was at Interbike last fall. Floyd happened to be one of the friendliest and most easy going of the bunch. I don't think he is a dork at all. Zabrisky was more of a dork. He couldn't even look at people in the eye and smile. He was a huge grump at the event. Floyd on the other hand was super upbeat and happy. Levi too - very classy guy.

Heard this many, many times about Levi. Hope he's in good form in July (tip o' the Giro to El Diablo Dos Caminos).

I wouldn't be so quick to slam David Z. One of the guys at the shop is also the TdF corresponded for PEZ and he says that Dave is really really shy. He doesn't like crowds and is very uneasy in large groups. One on one he's very easy going and quite affable. He does have very twisted sense of humor.

Popo wasn't trying to show Danielson up, he was over 1:30 down. Him coming back and trying to get Floyd to jump after him was a reasonable tactic, given that Team Discovery thought that getting Floyd to accelerate multiple times on the climb was the key to making him crack. Obviously, they were wrong and it didn't work, but Popo attacking after McCartney was spent was definitely part of the plan.

Attacking in order to wear out Floyd was definitely the plan and made sense earlier on the climb. But getting a jump on TD as well as Floyd in the last 500 meters? What was that about?

He probably realized that he couldn't draw Floyd out, so he went on his own to try to win the stage.

Also, there was no time bonus, so why NOT go try to win the stage if your teammate can't put time into Floyd?

I agree with Danielson that he should've attacked early and hard. Instead, Landis just toyed with TD; Popovych mattered not one bit. Phonak kept Landis in great shape for Brasstown Bald; Team Disco should've had an attack with the whole team if necessary with TD sucking wheel so he could hammer up the climb. I realize if they'd done this the Phonak team would've tagged along, too.

I'm psyched for this year's TDF; I think Landis will do quite well. I think Discovery will do well, too.

As for somebody new winning the TDF, I think it's likely but Jan could still win it again. Maybe Bruyneel is sending pizza and hookers to Jan's house every night?

Sometimes shyness, nervousness comes across as being arrogant. As a chemist, I know dorkiness and geekiness; good interpersonal skills are hard to come by and the chemists that have them do very well because the marketing/sales people don't have time for dorks and are quite bored with the accountants.

x2. There is a bit of a "break in" period though. Once they've got a few miles on them though you'd be hard pressed to tell. Even with a vigorous motorboating.

I bet in private after the climb was over Danielson thought to himself "thank god I didn't get dropped by Floyd".

Floyd's family is Mennonite. Three people I've met who have met Floyd all agree he is a Great Guy. Makes it easy to root for him.
