I purchased a bike with Alex AT450 rims.

The website for the company indicates the rim joint for this model is pinned.

It indicates other models are sleeved.

I've also seen some other company's rims listed as welded.

Is the pinned version inferior?

I'll be using this particular bike only for weekend rides on smooth roads, so there shouldn't be a problem, but it wouldn't hurt to know a little more about the rims.

Yes... welded rims are stronger than "pinned" rims... but don't consider those as "junk" just yet.

If you're not doing any hardcore off-roading, or jumping and thrashing... I don't think you'll have ANY problems what so ever.

The Alex Y-22's on my Haro freestyle (bash-em-up bike) are pinned.. and I've ridden the piss outta that thing with no bad-luck on the rims yet.

Just keep your tires up to pressure and everything will be dandy.

Aren't all rims, welded or not, pinned? Besides, spoke tension in a built wheel keeps the joint pulled together.
