went into the LBS this morning because i needed a new kickstand for my hybrid. no wuss biking jokes please. i somehow lost the last inch of it when i was playing on the brooklyn bridge in mostly unmarked snow. saw only footprints, definitely no tire prints so i couldn't resist.

anyway, my c note must have been burning a hole in my pocket because i walked out of there with a wireless cyclocomputer and bar ends too. i know people on medication for this kind of behavior.

"i was going to buy them eventually anyway'

Whether on a road bike, mountain bike or
Hybrid. . .
Welcome to the addiction. Don't bother trying to
fight/control it, its hopeless
I haven't been on the pedestrian/cyclists portion of the
Brooklyn Bridge in forever, but I used to love it.
Must have been fun in virgin snow. . .

I know the feeling... i walked into the Supergo bike store yesterday at Lunch.. lemme tell you there is like 20000 sq. ft. of biking ecstacy in there.. anyways... i had $50 in Gift certs. and a C-note in my pocket... bought the wife some new gloves (since I borrowed hers and shredded them), a riser block for my trianer, some knee warmers, a new set of Cinelli handlbars, some bar tape, some new derailleur cables, and after talking to the wrench there, decided that it was time to ditch the old school bio-pace chainrings on my bike, and upgrade them to some rounders... oh uhh how about some nice new light Ultegra rings.. those oughta fit reeeeeaal good... oh yes... so my total bill out the door was a little over $200... I'd probably put a down payment on a new bike, but my wife advised me that it was either our new house, or a new bike... kinda tough decision, but the house won out...

It is an addiction... you walk into the store just looking for something stupid like a powerbar, and walk out with a crapload of stuff... but ohhh how much fun it is !!

When I went in the to the LBS to buy new Cinelli stem, my previous one broke, I ended up buying the stem, new handlebars, new tape, new cyclocomputer, new gloves, and a new headset. All this for a 10 year old Shimano 600 bike that I built.

even when i psych myself not to purchase a thing i end up with socks. i have a brand new sock fetish. also i always buy a new lube that i haven't tried yet. i am safe now because winter hours in chicago are shorter and i am not in stores as much.

i am not an impulse buyer by nature. i visit the merchandise twice before i buy it (visiting hours are the hours that the store is open) and if the 'want' doesn't fade by the 2nd or 3rd visit then i get it. (this is for bigger ticket items, not food shopping or staples) that would be downright silly.

although i am due for some major overhaul for my bike. i need to wiegle the frame and retape the bars, new chain (over 3k this year) so i will be buying....maybe new look pedals...

Yeah, I have the same problem. That's why I'm always broke.

It's OK....at some point you will hit saturation and have one each of everything, and can walk out of the LBS without spending a dime. UNTIL they get something new in.

Hi,
if they put you on medication, they'll throw me
in a padded cell. My LBS did a 20% off sale, and I put about a thousand dolars worth of stuff on layaway. Including a wireless Cateye...and 2 bike lights...a Kryptonite lock...Ultegra shifters...an ultegra hub for a new rear wheel for the wife...a seat for the Sis....Salsa drop bars..Frog pedals..and a couple other things I can't remember right now. All I did was walk in to put a Union generator light on layaway, and the salesman said it was lucky I came in that day, and that parts and accesories were on sale....

I really only go into the bike shop to flirt with the mechanic.

...can't control myself in bike shop...

Once inside, I'm wasting some serious time.

Once outside, I'm dreaming about what I could to with some cold cash...

Resistance, as they say, is futile.

Sometimes I will visit the bike shop and not spend a dime. Those are the times when I go without money. Even then, I sometimes call the wife and ask her to pick up my latest want on her way home. She always has the money.

I go without money and they still end up putting me in debt. They are like "pay us when u come back". I guess its good they trust me though. Only people I pay back. My dad, and the LBS.
