Just curious - are Spinergy Spox wheels any good? Have heard mixed reviews and am looking at a used bike which has them. Any feedback appreciated. Thx.

I heard something about their spokes being easily broken and hard to replace...but this is not from experience, and I cannot verify the source...just don't burn me for heresy please.

For what it's worth, here's a link to reviews of Spinergy Spox at Roadbikereview.com:

The old ones with tensioned carbon blade spokes, rivetted at the crossovers, were notorious for catastrophic failure. There is a whole website devoted to Spox failures, and some really nasty injuries.
The rivet hole would provide a place to concentrate stress. The brittle carbon would start to crack, and the high tension would suddenly be relieved explosively. The remaining spokes would suddenly be overloaded and they would fail. The rider would then find his front hub unsupported by any spokes, heading towards the ground whilst travelling at 20mph.

Hopefully Spinergy have improved the design since then. I havent heard of any Spinergy failures in a long while.

You have mistaken the REV X carbon wheels for SPOX.

SPOX are no longer made. They are replaced by the XAERO, which have better bearings. The SPOX are excellent wheels that are difficult to true because of the spoke design. These look like fat spokes- they are PBO fiber spokes that are stronger than steel and more shock absorbing.

REV X are no longer made. THey are excellent and popular wheels that are too expensive to manufactuer. They are full carbon bladed wheels and have been continually refined over the last 5-7 years. They are the only wheels to win World Championships in the road race, TT and CC. These look like 4-spoke aero wheels.

Two regular customers of mine used them; one a 105 lb woman racer; she liked the cush ride but the rear hub bearings would not stay adjusted. other customer, an aggressive recreational rider (5 hr centuries) about twice the previous person's weight disliked the flex in addition to having hub bearing problems.
If they're on a used bike it should be price as if it had no wheels--I would consider Spox valueless.
