Bicycle Mechanics - Moving Grips on Mountain Bike HBars

Having trouble installing bar end grips on mountain bike Hbars, because I can't move my grips closer to the center. They twist a little, but are pretty stuck to the bars. Is there a trick to moving the grips?

stick something under the grip, like a small screwdriver, and put oil in that hole. COntinue around the entire grip. it should come off now.

I just pry the edge up, and squirt some windex between the grip and handlebar. I like it because it just evaporates and doesn't leave any perceptable residue. I use it to install grips, too.

Thanks guys. I tried the windex and it worked great for getting the grip off. But now I can't put it back on tight. If I windex the grip and put it back on, it rolls very easily in the bars. If I wipe off the windex, it's too tight to put on more than half way. Any thoughts?

dry them off, use compressed air from a can of computer dust off

stick nozzle in under grip while it is shoved
on as far as you can shove it, blast and push, they will go right on

or

clean up grips, use wd-40 to shove them on, but
do it fast. wd-40 will weld the grips on. yes...it really does
lube up inside of grip generously...

you haveta be quick with the wd-40 method...don't stop halfway and think about it

let dry overnight. they will be on fer (almost) life

Hair spray. Particularly Aqua Net (use the stuff in a pump bottle, it'll last you nearly a lifetime;) ) Spray the hair spray in the grip, liberally, and slide it on. It will be loose for a few minutes to a few hours but once dried, you shouldn't have a problem.

I would avoid oils or WD40 since these will absorb into the grips and may never set up so that the grip will bond to the bar. In some instances, the oil can make the grip expand and it will never stay on the bar.

By the way, the Windex (or alcohol) will work also, it just takes a while longer to dry and doesn't provide anything to bond the grip to the bar.

Yeah, but real Ourys feel a million times nicer than the lock-ons.
