Hello,

i'm planning to do the transam route(4400mi). My current freewheel and chain been used <2000 miles and are in good condition.
Is it critical chage them before the start of the tour?

thanks,
Pacho

I wouldn't think you'd need to change them (assuming the chain is not stretched), but definitely at least bring an extra chain.

If you have any concerns, buy a new chain before you leave - they're cheap. The cassette should be fine. However, you should pass plenty of bike shops enroute in case you need a new chain along the way.
