Anyone use the Crank Bros Egg Beater Pedals for their road bikes?
They seem to be targetted at mountain bikers so I'm not sure if they'd be any good on a road bike.

I got them on my Concorde. I love them. I dont use the road cleat though as I use mountain shoes on my Concorde.

if I remember correctly I believe RainmanP has them on his commuter, and really liked them. I don't see why they are listed as mtb only, as they seem to have an aplication to road bikes.

I have put them on my mountain bikes and absolutely love them. If I did not have the speedplays on my road bike it would be egg beaters.
I also have them on my road bike! They're great! I can't really compare them to other pedals as they're my 1st clipless pair.
It took me a while to adjust the cleats to where I feel completely comfortable. Though once adjusted, the pedal provides a stable platform.
BTW, I have a pair of Nike Pedali (touring) shoes, so I didn't need to buy the road cleats either.
FYI, there some great deals on the net for eggbeaters now.
I heard from an owner that you can roll off the front of them when you try to clip in. Not a big deal for some and you could overcome it with attention/practice. Just something I heard from a guy who didn't like em'.

The only thing I don't like about them is the fact that I payed full retail price when i got them. $175 bux CDN for them. Now they are around $70 US online.

I have not experienced this phenomenon. I see the possibility but even when my shoes have been globbed with mud I have no troubles.
BTW paid 89.00 for my sets at LBS so not the best price but not the worse. I have an understanding with them. They have to beat the online mags prices or I just order all my goodies online.
Fortunately I am a good enough customer to use this leverage.

Disclaimer: I have no experience with them.
It looks like they would have a small contact area with the shoe/cleat, which could cause "hot-spots," foot discomfort on long rides due to the pedal pressure being concentrated on a small area. This is kind of a generic problem that some roadies experience when using mtn pedals (e.g. SPDs). It can be alleviated somewhat by wearing stiff soled shoes.

I don't have a pair but everyone I talked to loves them.
BTW I saw them on Bike Nashbar for $49.95 on special! Awesome price for the '02 model. No I don't work for nashbar.....

$50 US eh. I think I am going to buy a few and sell them for $65 US.
I did have the hot-spots initially, but I believe that it was due to the cleat position on the shoe. Felt a 100x better once I adjusted them.

That's part of the reason why I'm interested in getting a pair
They're selling for really really cheap..and I've heard a lot of good things about them. Thing is, I don't know if they'd be any good for road biking...I might go w. Speedplays instead (except at three times the cost)
They are great pedals. For off-road they excel and work equally as well on road.
The small contact area will be an issue if you have flexible soled shoes, otherwise the cleat is so similar to SPD that if you know SPD than you know Eggs.
Light, cheap, simple, reliable, revolutionary. What else do you want for $70?
I've seen them on a tandem recumbent of all places. A husband wife pair on the bike accross Kansas tour. I think I saw them one other time on a road bike but I can't remember when or where. Dual side entry sure is easier to get into. Four would be easier yet.

One thing to consider is that SPD cleats can be destructive to even very stiff road shoes.
For about a year and half, I wore Shimano R-070Y road shoes with SPD cleats. Since they are bottom-of-the-line road shoes, the soles were not so great for stiffness. The pedal-shoe combo always made a creaky sound. Eventually, I noticed that the cleats were bending the soles of the shoes under the outward pressure of the sides of my feet. One of the shoe soles actually got cracked a bit by the force.
So I decided to get new shoes and went for the Shimano R-150. These are truly great shoes with stiff carbon soles. The salesman in the LBS said that after about a year of wear with SPD cleats even the carbon composite soles of my new shoes would be messed up by SPD cleats. So I got LOOK pedals and cleats. They are much more stable than SPD cleats and will treat my expensive road shoes much better.
I find look cleats much easier to enter and release than SPDs. I would not compromise the condition of my shoes or the stability of my pedaling for four-sided entry.

I have the egg beaters on my road bike for about two months
now. I have really stuff shoes so no hot spots. yet.
the only problem I have is in the release, sometimes I find it hard to get out of them. and I dont like the fact that you cant adjust
them. but other then that, they work great

Stinger,
I too have a cracked shoe sole caused be SPD cleats.
But the eggbeater pedals DO NOT use spd cleats so this shouldn't be a problem.

Hmm..interesting
I'm trying to decide between LOOK PP396's and the EGGBEATERS
http://www.lookcyclesusa.com/images/pp396black.jpg
The LOOKs are designed for road biking while the eggbeaters seems to be "OK" for everything...
which one would you guys choose?
I wouldn't buy either one. For road I buy and use speedplay. For dirt I would buy Time A.T.A.C. or the eggbeaters. The times are still the best I think but the eegbeaters use the same cleat system as far is I can tell. That's just my two cents on it.

Kenneth,
If you want to be able to walk whenever you step off the bike go for the Eggbeaters. If that isn't an issue then get whatever.
I guess I don't walk around very much because I didn't think of that. I go on group rides that stop for breakfast with speedplay cleats. I think I walk like a duck on land. You ever notice how funny ducks walk compared to how they swim or fly? They look so gracefull on the water and in the air they're sooo fast! Now if I could only ride like that?

Right you are, VegasCyclist! Rainman does, in fact, have 3 pair of Egg Beaters. I liked the first pair so much I immediately bought them for my other two bikes. All are road bikes. I was a perfectly happy use of Looks but decided to try the Egg Beaters mainly because I wanted to use mtb shoes for commuting so I could walk more easily. Roadbuzz, I have had no problems with hot spots. I started with Looks when I went clipless precisely because they look like a nice large platform. The Egg Beaters look almost ridiculously small but have not been a problem at all. I have even rebuilt one pair and can attest to the ease with which that can be done. I doubt I will ever use another pedal. I have also never had a problem "rolling off the front". In fact, I can't imagine easier pedals to get into and out of. You never have to worry about which side is up since any side will do. Just hook any wire with a cleat and snap in.

what cleat do they use? is it similar to spd?
also on nashbar.com the egg beaters (http://www.nashbar.com/profile.cfm?category=108&subcategory=1078&brand=&sku=6196&storetype=&estoreid=) are only 49.99... lowest I have seen them yet.
