Hey guys.
I was just wondering if any of your Hayes Hydraulic discs sound like a bumble-bee and make that "fweee" noise when you SLAM on them hard for a good stop?
Is this normal. I'm not ********... but I just wanted to see if any of ya'lls bikes made this noise.
Thanks in advance

Are the calipers new? Is the whole system new? Maybe its the tires against the ground.

Does it just make noise or does it also cause the bike to vibrate?

Hey-
Are you on pavement when you are stopping hard and hearing this noise? The knobby tires buzz when your near to locking them up on pavement during a hard stop.
Is your bike vibrating when you hear this noise?

Sorry it took me so long to respond.
Yeah.. it's either on pavement or dirt that it does it.
I know it's not the tire.. I know what that sound is.
It sounds like a "F AA W EEEEEE!!" ..
not REALLY loud.. but definitely noticeable.
Yes the system is NEW... only 1 1/2 weeks old.
They stop on a DIME... but they make that noise. (under hard, long braking only).
My OLD bike made the same noise sometimes.. and I never could figure out what it was. Anyone else's input?
Thanks guys!

I am not sure what material the Haye's pads are made of but if they have a high metal content(better wear and braking) it will cause them to squeel. Also, if you get some debris, sand, mud and so forth, it will also cause them to make noise.
Did you install the brakes?
Another cause would be if the rotor is not centered in the caliper, when you apply the brakes it could bend the rotor just enough to cause it to rub the caliper. Check the caliper for any marks left by the rotor.
Does the noise get louder or quieter when the brakes get hot?

The noise is all-around the same level.. hot, cold, anything.
These brakes (HFX-9's) came on my 03' BigHit Comp.
They stop wonderfully... they just make that noise.
the rotors ARE centered in the calipers.

Then it most likely is the material of the pads. The pads are probably of a higher metal content which is a good thing. It will stop better and last longer. I would not worrie about the noise.
When it comes time to replace the pads I would recomend EBC red if you do alot of dh, gold if you ride in mud or wet weather. The EBC green are good pads but do not last as long as the gold and have no where near the stopping power of the red.
