Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - Super long track ends

Would super extra long track ends give you a greater variety of gearing choices for a flip-flop hub without adding or removing links in your chain? Or is there some reason why long track ends would pose a problem that I can't think of?
at the very end, if they're not beefy enough, you might have some problems, but I really doubt it. Hoe much of a difference are you looking for?

the paul component ends have a long slot and are pretty tough. the ends on a kogswell are simillarly long-slotted. i find both to be great, but i've only cursed the shorter ends on my pista once or twice, so i don't think it really makes too much of a difference.

my bike has pretty long ends (about 1.5x that of most), but I have single sided hubs so I've never taken advantage of it. I actually found them a pain in the ass because I like using chain tensioners but the fat MKS ones (the only ones that fit) don't extend out long enough. I could get rid of another link if I got rid of them.
this is mainly idle curiousity, but if one were touring fixed, for instance, and wanted a 6 or 8 tooth difference between one side of the hub and the other, how long of a track end would that require? (i guess a more important question is, why would anyone want a 6 or 8 tooth difference, but that's a different story)

I think the rule of thumb is 1/8 of an inch for every tooth.

yup, 1/8" is a good rule of thumb
each additional tooth adds 1/2" to the circumference of your cog.
assume that the chain wraps 1/2 of the cog at a time -> changes the chain length by 1/4"
this 1/4" difference is taken up by the top and bottom parts of the chain -> hence the 1/8"

I have ultra-short columbus track ends and it pretty much means i need to add/remove a link/halflink with any gearing changes.
Luckily, I don't change gears.
